GATE 2017 CSE, AIR 134, SCORE 836, GENERAL CATEGORY

Greetings to all, and congrats to everyone who succeeded. I'm very much confused about my options, and I need some guidance from some of you experienced people.

First of all, I'm not interested in applying for Ph.D programs. So, my only options are M.Tech 2 year programs.

According to what I have gathered so far, IIT Madras & Kharagpur are my best options for direct admission. I will definitely prepare & apply for IIT Kanpur & Delhi as well, but I can't be sure to get into those as the interviews can go either way. So, should I apply for only one of Madras & Kharagpur (so that I don't waste the seat of some other candidate)? If yes, then which one? I've seen people saying that both are equal, and choose any of them. This thought confuses me even more.

Is there a possibility of getting confirmation in the first round itself from IITM/KGP? I'm not quite sure about that.

Additionally, I would like some info about how seat locking works. Say, if I don't confirm my seat in 1st round of an institute X (waiting for subsequent rounds of some other better institute Y), will I be eligible for the subsequent rounds of X?

Both IITM and IITKGP are equivalent but I think IITM campus is an absolute beauty.(Bit hot though, but rain helps).

Also you have to lock seat when you are offered, for iitkgp you have to pay ~30k to lock seat, I don't remember clearly but they give a window in which you can leave that seat and fee will refunded.(But no worries, IITM and KGP don't waste seats because they have spot round).

You've scored ~70 marks in GATE, if you keep studying I'm sure you can score >45-50 marks in IITK written.
