Glad that you asked this question. I was thinking about these stuff for past few weeks . I have got few suggestions in improving the UI and some functionalities in Gateoverflow . Here it goes..
Front Page
Well almost 99.99% of computer engineers are facebook users . probably fb would have been the first social media network every one might have used . So what you call i dont know , It has been into the blood that front page should be a timeline linke stuff
my suggestions for front page
- it should be recent activities people will know what is happening in gateoverflow . the most recent treanding dicussion on timeline is super cool
- search box in top like a graph search in fb :D
- Page should be compressed , ie less scrolling make everything in that window .Lot of informations in front page isn't a good idea. probably you can add more pages and link it in a menu like stuff
- just like trending in fb if you could add upcoming exams and date or something like that .there are lot of exams a CSE engineer can write only few people knows what are those exams .
some functionalities
- people sometime post small images which would be very difficult for people with less eye power . so it would be nice if you could add feature like when you click on a image it enlarges like in amazon or flipkart when you hover on a product it enlarges .
- it would be nice if you can open a dropbox or something where usrs can add resourses . like their studying notes like stuff . good pdf or ppt on some topics
- just like quora it would be nice if people who posts questions can tag people who are subject experts in some fields . so that every questions will get answered
- Add provision in ask section to ask queries related to Job. CS is a very vast area and I believe almost 80% of CS Engineers knows only teaching and soft developer posts
NB: I will keep on editing if i find something more .
