Given $f : Z^*Z \rightarrow Z$

And:

  1. $f(m,n) = \mid m \mid – \mid n \mid$
  2. $f(m,n) = m2 + n2$
  3. $f(m,n) = m2 –  4$
  4. $f(m,n) = 2m – n$

 

Which one of the following options is correct?

  1. only IV is onto.
  2. only IV and I are onto.
  3. III is not onto.
  4. II is onto.

II is wrong because of this reason (out of some) : No negative numbers are there. Almost similar argument with III.  II, III are not onto.
 I and IV can cover all Z range after carefull observation.
