Suppose that N ethernet stations, all trying to send at the same time, require N/2 slot times to sort out who transmits next. Assuming the average packet size is 5 slot times, express the utilization of ethernet as a function of N

a. 5/(N+10)
b. 10/(10+N)

Here :

Polling Time = N/2

Polling time is time taken to select which station will transmit next.

Propogation time is Not given so neglect it.

Now ,

Utilization= (Transmission Time)/(Transmission Time + Polling Time)

= 5/(5+N/2)

=10/(10+N)

So Option B
