Question

What type of graph is STAR?

A.  Bipartite

B. Tripartite

C. Mutipartite

PS : I know a star graph is bipartite but can't we say that a bipartite graph is also tripartite . I. E. It can be partitioned into 3 independent sets.

Similarly , it is mutipartite as well.

There is a theorem that : A graph is a bipartite iff it is bichromatic barring the null graph which can also be made bipartite but is unichromatic.

Now when we say about chromatic number , it is about minimum number of colors right . So as the case of minimal paritions of vertex sets . 

So we should go with bipartite here as star graph is bichromatic .

You mean to relate the partitioning to the chromatic numbers ?

For bipartite graph this theorem holds true that it has direct relation with the fact that chromatic number = 2. But for higher ones , not sure .
