If there is a read-only page and we want to write it then this will lead to a trap to OS. This is not page fault. Please explain what am I missing? 0 votes 0 votes Rupendra Choudhary commented Oct 26, 2017 reply Follow Share Page fault is an exception , generated by our processor. its quite messy to know the exact differences b/w Trap/Interrupts/Faults , they are terminologies , and second thing processor dependent like divide by 0 is considered Trap in some systems and in other systems it's considered as hardware interrupt. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3149175/what-is-the-difference-between-trap-and-interrupt as per my knowledge , when a process try to perform write operation on a read only page , it's kind of segmentation fault or more correctly 'protection fault' but fault , not trap. it's generated by processor. read it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_protection_fault here it said that in Microsoft windows protection faults are considered as page faults. other useful references https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30923127/why-page-fault-is-considered-as-trap https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6950549/segmentation-fault-vs-page-fault https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10948930/does-a-page-fault-occur-whenever-we-have-a-segmentation-fault https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8385097/what-is-a-write-to-read-only-page-fault-called https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interrupt_descriptor_table https://www.careercup.com/question?id=5078397269049344 0 votes 0 votes Please log in or register to add a comment.
