It's basic function (logical concept only)of Session layer to establish session (kind of dialogue b/w source and destination) and it's done by using RPCs.

TCP/IP is practical model , which make more sense , there no session layer exist because in real world problem its hard to decide , which layer establish session b/w both parties. Transport layer establish connection prior to actual data transmission.it can be considered as work of session layer.
