What is the value returned by the function if sum(1001) is called?

The ans should be 501 as for each odd no we have +n and for each even no we have -n so the net result will be a diff of 1.

 

for ex - s(1001)= s(1000)+10001

                     = s(999)-1000+1001

                     =s(998)+999-1000+1001

Just analyse the pattern and you will clearly understand that the result should be 501 . Let me know if i am wrong .
