Indexing

Question

Database relation has 10,000 records. Block can hold either 4 records or 15 key and pointer pairs. If dense index used at 1^st level and multilevel indexing is used for 1^st level index then the minimum number of disk blocks required to store relation are ________.

My ans : 2680 ??

I am getting what you are doing.. can you explain in words why did you do ((1000/15)/4)? :(

primary index are sparse , since there is an entry to every disk block of data file.

Now a block contain 4 records and 15 pointer and all 15 pointer means 15 blocks in same disk

Am I wrong?

Edit:

No of block access for sparse will be $\left \lceil \frac{10000}{4} \right \rceil=2500$

$\left \lceil \frac{2500}{15} \right \rceil=166$

$\left \lceil \frac{166}{15} \right \rceil=11$

$\left \lceil \frac{11}{15} \right \rceil=1$

2500+166+11+1
