The word stalemate is generally used in chess.

Suppose A and B are playing chess.

Now,assume A is not in check but cannot give any other move except into check. That is A cannot make progress in the game.

This situation of A is called stalemate.

This word is similar to the word deadlock.

Deadlock means a situation where no progress can be made.

So, option C will be the correct answer.

Whatever I know about stalemate is :

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

  • It is related to chess
  • Where I can't move my player, as it is not defined by the set of rules.
  • It is like when I can't move my player as well as the other player can't move his/her player except both the player can move only the king to the check position.
  • It always results in a draw, means no parties win.
  • Usually, we found this word in the newspaper.

like: "Their match ended in stalemate."

  • The most appropriate synonym would be "deadlock"; actually, we can use "dead-end" also in the place of stalemate.
