Question

suppose we have 50 control signal and suppose 49 control signals are active,

Q1:consider  horizontal micro programed control unit what is the length of control word in bits?

Q2: consider vertical micro programed control unit what is the length of control word in bits?

actually what i am getting is that 50 is for horizontal

but what i am doing for  vertical is that one control signal is active at a tym then we use decoder so for one control signal we got 6 bits so for 49 control signal we got 49*6=294 bits

but now doubt is that we know size of control word using horizontal microprograming is more than vertical one but here reverse situation is arising............

Here we will need 50 bits in Horizontal and we will need log(50) bits that is 6 bits in Vertical micro programming .

Now in horizontal the parallelisom is more that is we will get 49 signal at one clock itself but when it comes to vertical ..we will get one signal per one clock so solution for that is we must increase the frequency and decrease the clock time so that we can get all signal within the time which is very near to horizontal micro programming ..

Say for ex if we have clock of x ns so we get 49 signals at the end of x ns in horizontal .

But for vertical we have to decrease the clock such that we will have all signals in nealry x ns

Any time horizontal >= Vertical

Here it should be strictly greater.

In case of vertical it doesn't bother how may signals are active it uses a decoder =>log(50)=6

now if it correct then we have 49 cs which are active and for each one we need 49 sub control fields through which decoders are connected so why not 49*6 =249

and in horizontal 1 bit per control signal hence 50

I did not understand that statement  

But that was the problem of Vertical Micro Programming right if we have soo many active lines we can't use it so we have moved to Hybrid

Horizontal :  50

Vertical :

(48 grp each having 1 + 1 grp with 2(2^1) )cause it's said 49 signal will be active together. (but this can be said only if we consider that those 2 signal are of same kind) and mutually exclusive with others

Thus (48+1)= 49
