Question

When a cache miss occurs the time required to access the memory is the sum of???

time required to search in cache + time required to search in Main memory

because, hierarchy is (wrt access time)

Registers -> Cache -> RAM (Main Memory) -> HDD (Secondary Memory)

See my doubt is that when a miss occurs the processor search for that block in the main memory and the place it in the cache so the total time is the sum of  

= Searching in main memory + placing it in cache + again accessing cache for that block...

 

Is it??
