Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240

What is the address of 5th host of 6th subnet?

  1. 192.168.0.100
  2. 192.168.0.85
  3. 192.168.0.84
  4. 192.168.0.101

My answer is D but B is provided as answer.

How you got D ???

You can see that from subnet mask that there are 4 bit for subnet.

So, total subnet = 16.

For 6th subnet bit will be  0101

5th host will be ( 1st one is for subnet id)  = 0101

So, Last 8 bit =  0101   0101 = 85.

192.168.0.85.

Shouldn't it be 0110 for the 6th subnet?

that's how I got D.

No, It will start from 0000   (0th subnet) ==>>>> 1111 ( 15th subnet) =====>>> total 16 subnet.

Then 0000 should be 1st subnet.

Not sure if this approach is valid or not.

 your answer is right.0000 is $zero^{th}$ subnet ,we can't use that subnet id because it is used as Net-id .so $6^{th}$ subnet will be 0110 not 0101.
