A group consists of equal no of men and women .of this grp 20% of men and 50% of women are unemployed .If a person is selected at random from this group ,the probability of the selected person being employed is ____________

For this I did

P(E)=P(M∩ E) +P(W∩ E) where U and E are for employed and unemployed ,Now P(M)=P(W)=1/2

Now P(E/M)= 0.8    and P(E/W)=0.5

so we get

P(E)= 1/2 * 0.8 +1/2*0.5 =13/10

where is the mistake , answer given is 65% .

P(employed)=1-P(not employed)

P(not employed)=0.5*0.5+0.5*0.2=0.35

Therefore probability of selecting employed person=1-0.35=0.65
