Which of the following is an example of a deductive argument?

  1. All Indians are in favor of peace. Militants do not care about peace. Militants bring about war.
  2. No one got an $A$ grade on yesterday's test. Amal was not in school yesterday. Amal will make up the test today and get an $A$ grade.
  3. There are $20$ books on the top shelf of my bookcase and $21$ books on the lower shelf. There are no other books in my bookcase. Therefore, there are $41$ books in my bookcase.
  4. Meena is either in Mysore or Mumbai. If Meena is in Mysore, then she is in Karnataka. If Meena is in Mumbai, then she is in Maharashtra. Therefore, Meena is in Karnataka.

An argument in which the premises do succeed in guaranteeing the conclusion is called a (deductively) valid argument. If a valid argument has true premises, then the argument is said also to be sound. All arguments are either valid or invalid, and either sound or unsound; there is no middle ground, such as being somewhat valid.

Option $(C)$, has two premises and a conclusion that follows logically from them.

Choices $(A),(B)$ and $(D)$ have conclusions that do not follow the premises.

So, the correct answer is $(C).$
