Consider a string is stored in a word addressable memory where each word is of 4 Bytes. If the string starts at 100 and ends at 104 then which of the following can be the possible string(s) that can be stored.

Very ambiguous q. Ask Unacademy about it xD. Don’t put mind in these type of qs. Here 100-104 means 5*4 = 20B string can be stored. By default every character is 1B. Looking at all options all of them have length less than 20B.

Another possibility is: Option C) POINTER. Here POIN can be stored in one cell and TER/0 can be stored in other cell perfectly. Still it doesn’t seem convincing.

yes I thought the same 20B so every string will be stored .

here one word  is of 4B so as it is mentioned that the string starts at 100 and ends at 104

so it means two consecutive words (thus 8B(including NULL character)) 

which means option B and C are correct as per them .

but the examples which @Nisha Bharti had given it contains all the 6B of string (excluding NULL char) where array size is 6B.

so my doubt is that

does it keep 1B(from array size) reserved for NULL char?  or not?

try executing for greetings[5]=”hello”;

AND one more doubt is that

when the array is wriitten as greeting[]  = {‘h’,’e’,’l’,’l’,’o’,’\0’};

it treats \0 as a char right? becoz this is not a string. they are characters.

In C, whatever string we input, the null character (\0) is appended to the string by default. it takes 1 byte space and that’s why when we use str.length() function, it gives us actual length+1.

When we declare an array of characters, then it does not append any null character. Based on this concept, many pyqs are there

The string length in C is equal to the count of all the characters in it (except the null character "\0"). For Example, the string "gfddf" has a length of 5 and the string "4343" has a length of 4.
