Let at the time $t$ hrs , they meets

Distance covered by that move from Mumbai, say $x= 60t$ Km

Distance covered by that move from Pune, say $y= 40t$ Km

Distance between Mumbai and Pune $=x+y =60t+40t=100t$ Km

one having more speed with cover more distance in same time.

so, $x=y+20$

$60t=40t+20$

$t= 1$hr

Distance between Mumbai and Pune $= 100 \times 1 = 100$Km

car A moves with 60 kmph ,so distance travelled in 1hr=60km

car B moves with 40 kmph ,so distance travelled in 1hr=40km

difference of distance travelled by them is 20 km = difference of distance travelled by them in 1 hr

so distance between Mumbai and Pune is=sum of distance travelled by both in 1 hr

 i.e. 60+40=100 km

Here when they both met time is constanct so 'V' is directly proportional to  'D'

and since car from mumbai travels with more speed it covers more distance ie. x+20

Therefore V1/V2=D1/D2

60/40=(20+x)/x

=>x=40km

total distance=x+20+x

2(40)+20=100.
