The statistics of runs scored in a series by four batsmen are provided in the following table. Who is the most consistent batsman of these four?

$$\begin{array}{|c|c|c|} \hline \textbf{Batsman} & \textbf{Average} & \textbf{Standard deviation} \\\hline \text{K} & \text{31.2} &\text{5.21} \\\hline \text{L} & \text{46.0} &\text{6.35} \\\hline \text{M} & \text{54.4} &\text{6.22} \\\hline \text{N} & \text{17.9} &\text{5.90} \\\hline \end{array}$$

  1. $K$
  2. $L$
  3. $M$
  4. $N$

According to me the answer is option C i.e M .  Notice that the averages mentioned are not same. So if we find the SD for avg score =1 for every batsmen i.e.   for K    if avg score=1        SD=0.16

                                                                 for L    if avg score=1        SD=0.15

                                                                 for M   if avg score=1        SD=0.11

                                                                 for N    if avg score=1        SD=0.32

now since we have same average score base line, the batsmen with least SD has the most consistency. Thus answer should be option C i.e.M.

here we are talking about consistency means whose score remains approximately the same every time,

it has nothing to do with the highest score so A is the answer as the S.D is less means less variation around mean.
