An organization is granted the block 164.76.0.0/16. the admin wants to create 2048 subnets using 11 bits. What are the first and the last addresses in subnet 2048 ?

First  address in subnet 2048 will be 164.76.11111111.11100000 = 164.76.255.224/27

Last address in subnet 2048 will be  164.76.11111111.11111111 = 164.76.255.255/27

i guess it should be: 164.76.0000 0000.0010 0000 and last address 164.76.0000 0000.0011 1111

According to me, what you have written is the first and last address of second(out of total 2048 subnets) subnet.

First  address in 1st subnet will be 164.76.00000000.00000000 = 164.76.0.0/27

Last address in 1st subnet  will be  164.76.00000000.00011111 = 164.76.0.31/27

If we use 11 bits for 2048 subnets and keep all the bits '1', how will you broadcast to all the subnets. Thats basically wrong.

For 2048 subnets, you need 12 bits.

so, 164.76.01111111.11110000 would be subnet address.

Address of 1st host in this subnet = 164.76.01111111.11110001

Address of last host in this subnet = 164.76.01111111.11111110
