M.Tech. (CSE, Regular)
M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering
This is a four semester programme with two semesters devoted to thesis research. Applicants should have a B.Tech. or equivalent degree and must possess a valid GATE score in CS. Candidates having professional qualifications recognized by AICTE, like AMIE, are also eligible to apply. In addition, candidates sponsored by an industry/R&D organization are also considered. Sponsored candidates must have at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination and at least two years of work experience. A GATE score is not mandatory for sponsored candidates.

Eligibility Criteria
For admission to the MTech Programme, a candidate must have a Four-year Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum 6.0 CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) on 10-point scale (or 60% aggregate marks).
The CPI/Marks criteria will be relaxed by 0.5 CPI (or 5% marks) for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
Discipline wise qualifying degrees (along with CPI/Marks criteria, if it is different from the above) are listed below. Also, admissible GATE Papers' codes for the candidates applying under the studentship category Regular with GATE are also listed below.
- MTech Discipline: Computer Science and Engineering
- Specialization: Computer Science and Engineering
- Admissible GATE Papers for Regular Candidates: Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)
- Qualifying Degrees and Disciplines: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area, or
M.Sc.(Computer Science/Information Technology)/MCA, or
Graduates (AMIETE) enrolled upto 31.05.2013 from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in Computer Science & Engineering.
Admission Procedure
- Candidates will be shortlisted based on the GATE score.
- List of shortlisted candidates along with shortlisting criteria will be available on the M.Tech. admission page soon.
- Based on GATE score and eligibility of the candidates, ranked list of candidates will be prepared. The admission offer will be available only through the COAP portal
If your GATE score is not good enough for Regular M.Tech admission, you may consider applying for regular PhD degree at CSE, IIT Guwahati.

Admissions to the M.Tech. (Non- Regular) Programme
Admission Procedure
- Mode of Selection: Written Test and/or Interview of Shortlisted Candidates. This time selection will be held in-person at the Department of CSE, IIT Guwahati.
- You need to visit IIT Guwahati for the selection.
- In the written test, candidates are expected to solve questions from the GATE CSE Syllabus.
- Result will be displayed with in a week of the interview in the website of Academic Section, IIT Guwahati.

THREE DEPARTMENTS
CSE, EEE and Mathematics departments offer this program. Curriculum is designed keeping in view diversity of the students, emphasizing on the foundational subjects the programme expects.
COMPETITIVE ADMISSION PROCEDURE
This programme is starting with total of 20 seats. Best of the candidate will be competing.
ELIGIBILITY Minimum Requirements
- DEGREE REQUIREMENT: Bachelorâs degree in any stream of Engineering/ Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area or MCA/M. Sc/Four years B Sc or equivalent in appropriate discipline

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Minimum CPI of 6.0 or 60% qualifying degree, fulfilling specific requirements for different disciplines.

GATE REQUIREMENT: A valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score in CS, EC, EE, IN, MA, ST or XE is a must.

SHORTLISTING BASED ON GATE SCORE: Candidates meeting minimum requirements are eligible for applying to M. Tech. in Data Science programme. Admission will be based on GATE score.
