Shikha Mallick commented Feb 4, 2018 Like reply Follow Share Aptitude was easy. Technical section was lengthy and difficult. DS and Algo questions were easy. But some Maths, CN, CO and OS questions were bit difficult, lengthy and tricky for me. Ashwin Kulkarni commented Feb 4, 2018 Like reply Follow Share Lenghty and yes somewhat similar to set 1 2017 max crowd who prepared well will be in 50-55 i guess! :( aehkn commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share difficult technical section i prepared hard but i think i didn't performed well in this exam vvk_ commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share i think two main reasons for higher difficulty level of this year paper first most of the questions were of type which were never asked in any gate paper or any coaching test series or every student not pay more attention on these things during preparation eg. wrap around time asked , number of bits in UDP destination port address . second almost all questions were so lengthy that we have to give 4 min. to read question and then next 4 min to solve it . Sonu Kumar 1 commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share Till now, no coaching institute has released the answer keys. When will they release ?? SHUBHAM SHASTRI commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share generally ..every time gate paper was like ... 50 score was easy ...not that much hard and actual filter was after 60+ marks ... but this time no proper distribuiton of subjects as well as paper was not blanced. every time paper create 3 class of students one class of TOP students (60-65+ marks) one class of good students (45-59..60 mraks) and one of those who got less than 40 like that .. but i am sure..... this time TOP students are at top ..but there will be compete absence of middel ones ..because questions were not that much easy which will seperate out good students ..so all then will be at below only .. This is what i think ....but lets wait for answer key! Tridhara Chakrabarti commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share found paper to be very difficult.. Few people mentioned that it is somewhat similar to 2017 set 1. i disagree. I sat in 2017 paper..Yes there were tricky tough ones..but it had many direct moderate ones that well prepared candidates can solve easily..This paper had unique questions..And the tricky ones were not only tricky but lengthy..You have full page questions that that take 4/5 mins to read and another 4/5 mins to answer..That is 10 mins in one answer..But this is just my opinion though..There maybe many well performing candidates.:-(( shall j commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share I completely agree your point.I too wrote 2017 set1 paper. Warlock lord commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share Well there will always be difference of opinions .... really depends how and what you prepared for more... I didn't take 2017 GATE last year but tried to take a blind test few weeks ago .. I scored about 60 in set 1 and 55 in set 2.. found set 1 to be easier than set 1 .. but others say set 1 was more difficult.... same case here. I found this paper to be more difficult than set 1 as well ... there were some easy questions as well but I wasted too much time on questions I finally made wrong conclusions, costing me both time and marks. Because of which I was trying to rush through the 1 marks. And made silly error. :( Tridhara Chakrabarti commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share me too!!!..did some really foolish mistakes..i was engrossed in technical paper..tried the easier apti at the end..thought i could manage in the last 15 mins remaining..but your brain stops functioning at that point..so missed out on some easy apti questions that i am sure most candidates would have answered. :-((..technical too did mistakes.god knows what will happen..I think the candidates who did not get intimidated by the paper and were able to keep their cool will do well. sardendu commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share According to my own experience:- During preparation i found whatever be the paper, on an average:- 40% will be likely seen question, 30% medium and 30% tough, so any how One can target (40 + 30)%, but after exam , my perception changed. Likely seen question was around 15% and rest you guys knows better most of them was lengthy tricky and difficult too. For me this was kind of paper where I am not confident even after solving the question properly. Well conceptually prepared student can be in between 55 to 65 marks in this paper. Arjun commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share If paper was difficult so what? Only rank will matter in the end. dekabh commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share Gate 2018 paper was difficult compared to GATE 2017. However, the best part of the paper is that there is no normalization involved. (single paper across all Geography locations) The paper becomes difficult as there is no expected questions from some certain topics (as per previous year question paper) like: 1. Master theorem - time complexity. 2. Multi-level paging question 3. LL(1), LR(1), SLR(1), CLR(1) 4. Stack questions (in-order to post order evaluation) ... and many more. Finally, we are not competing with the paper, we are competing with the aspirants. Even though the paper is tough, there exists some aspirants who score 100 percentile..... Mk Utkarsh commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share Ashwin Kulkarni you did well i knw :D Ashwin Kulkarni commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share @Mk Utkarsh haha thanks bro... but i’m not sure about score and all. I found already 5-6 silly mistakes Though I attempted many Questions but afterall accuracy matters! Let’s wait for the answer key and hope for the best! _jerry commented Feb 5, 2018 Like reply Follow Share Haha... all these comments about paper being tough and beyond imagination! I remember four years back when JEE Advanced 2014 happened, at that time it was speculated to be the toughest IIT paper in past so many years. Later when the results were declared, the topper had aced the exam like never before, with marks much higher than the previous years' toppers had ever achieved!!! What I am saying is that the paper was purely conceptual. The questions are always meant to be new and so was the case. Any person with crystal clear and solid foundations could have easily done them. They were sure lengthy to comprehend but brief enough to understand the concept which is being asked. And of course the language will be twisted a bit, after all they are IIT professors, they won't serve us a pie in the paper! And there's no point of discussing the answers. When the official answer keys get changed at times, why to unnecessarily stress out yourself by taking someone else's answers as correct! Just relax and wait for March 17. Surajit commented Feb 7, 2018 Like reply Follow Share that is true...I think one time full time preparation for gate is enough....there is no point in just sticking for good gate score for years watching the change of drastic patterns of paper....one can practice and revise and attempt again maybe......with hard work one can definitely improve but he cannot become super genius, those foundations are layed much earlier when you are maybe 12-16 years old.....the most difficult part of the paper was to read these large questions and assimilate meaning in 4-5 mins.....no coaching institute can prepare to face this type of paper.......its only oneself who can do so...people who score above 65+ in this paper is clearly a cut off....no doubt about it...
