Respected seniors

I need your precious suggestion , I was the student of one of prime institution of GATE and IES and dedicated one  even my b.tech % is also more Than 70%  but still I was not able to crack gate and now I am thinking to full time drop and prepare again but I have a doubt??

I worked hard for gate 2018 but result  was not in my favor

Is it possible to get more than 70 number if I worked hard from now onwards ?

please suggest me should I drop one year and prepare again or tell me what I need to do

Thank you all of you

just keep in mind that a great attempt can change ur life if u dont have any thing to do except gate......

nd gate is nothing to those who have millions idea to get success but gate is every thing to those who have only one idea of success i.e gate............

if you have gone one year through with gate preparation than no need for one full year as you already know the concepts...do something this year and give 3 hrs a day for revision daily, keep note of weak areas and tricky questions, attempt question papers on weekend, try to take leave for about a month from work or study just before exam day.....a great attempt can do wonders..and a bad attempt can ruin your entire 1 year (just like I ruined mine this year) and you will feel miserable as you will only be judged with your gate score and not your average scores in mock tests...bst of luck for next year..surely we will have our day oneday...

Get a job first and prepare for it in parallel. Don't get swayed away by emotional attachment with Gate. Career gap do count and it will make ur life more difficult. Keep practicing through test series. And when u find urself confident enough, quit the job and prepare full time. At that time u will have work experience too. This experience will count whether u get selected in Gate or even if u try to switch back to the job. This is my personal experience related to career gap. It really makes u suffer. U have age and there is no restriction on no. of attempts.

Dont leave job untill you get <1000 rank. It is possible to prepare with Job. Just leave near to place of office, don't get involved too much into project , get good coaching . Online coaching preferable. If you do all this you can easily get 6 hours dialy for study + 2 weekends + around 20 paid leaves per year. this is sufficient to get good rank(<500) in one year. Remeber following correct material and geting good coaching is important , dont use stupid local books or lectures.

ok . then also answer would remain same , if your rank is <1000 take drop, else take job  & prepare parallelly . This advice is given by Akash kanase , you can search his blog on google.

I respect everyone's opinion here :) I was in pretty much the same situation last year with rank 1800 around .I got admission in IIITD and was placed in Hitachi.I even cleared IIITH written but didn't appeared for interview since I already decided to try next year.I decided to prepare full time and did self study I think just for 8 months.Althrough, being at home was a little frustrating sometimes But, now I feel I think that was the best decision I could have made in my life.

This year I got gate rank of 352.Went for interviews in various IITs ,it was a great experience.

I am waitlisted at 7 in IITK ,hope i get there.Except that I got 11th rank in NIELIT Scientist-B and is selected for Scientific Assistant there.I have even cleared BARC written and have interview next month.I am getting 139 marks in ISRO ,hoping to get interview call there.

After gate I appeared for JRF interview in DRDO and currently working there, even after a years gap I managed to get a job.

I told you what I did when I was at your place, but the rest is upto you to decide.

But,keep in mind every year many people try for gate full time but everyone doesn't succeed.Success or not it really depends on your willpower and zeal to go on even when you score less in Mock tests.Because risking everything for just 3 hours is a very bold decision.

And one more added advantage ,your friends change ,you actually get to interact with high rankers in Gate and your seniors in prestigious institutes and trust me you will be amazed by there positivity and hardworking nature.

All the best Ankit !

@VS You had a rank of 1800, hence you did have a hope that you'll get a three digit rank if you attempt it again, but he is way far behind (so am I). Do you still recommend taking a dedicated drop, or having a job in parallel would be wise?

@Ajit
I am seriously noone to suggest anything to anyone.Neither I am suggesting you to take a drop nor him.I am just saying what I did.
See all this depends on you ! We have examples of people like RaviShanker Mishra who topped in GATE CS in-spite the fact he was a mechanical graduate.
See Ajit, let me be very clear with this ,you take anyone that person could guide you or motivate you for like 10 min in 10 days but ultimately its you who have to spend 8 months working hard.Your success belongs to many but your failure only to you.You are a grown up man and you really cannot blame your parents and friends or circumstances for your failure.
Just ask yourself what you want from your life. There are people who prepared with job and have got better ranks than me.If you feel you can do with job ,go ahead !
I just did what made me happy :) You do what makes you happy ,as simple as that.
All the best !
