We are having a Telegram group for GATE CSE 2022 preparation as per the GO Schedule. Group is open to all but with strict guidelines as given below. Spammers will get instant ban.

Posting guidelines for GATE Overflow Telegram group for GATE CSE 2022

  1. Posting of doubts only as per GO schedule, you can post from any subject which is past in the schedule but not from future.
  2. No coaching queries except for links already on GO site - you really don't need them.
  3. All the subject resources are shared on classroom.gateoverflow.in under respective subject pages - you need to self enroll for each subject course
  4. Previous year questions - GO link or GO PDF image -- all questions are already answered there including discussion.
  5. Self doubts allowed -- but only if it's a "self doubt" (no questions from unknown source being posted as self doubts)
  6. Images from standard books or videos are allowed
  7. If a question/doubt has been answered by someone, don't answer it again unless you have something more to add.
  8. Private messaging is strictly discouraged unless with prior approval of the person.

Please fill in your GATE 2020 Results here:

https://forms.gle/Mnh4oaWH66YJMLJj9

Please visit the below blog for seeing detailed admission response of GATE 2019 and this can tell you what you can get for a given rank.

Use GATE rank for comparison and not GATE score. Because score can vary between years and so rank is a better factor for comparison.

For GATE ranks 80-1500 you’ll be getting calls for interviews and you can make use of the experiences given below.

Hi Everyone,

I am Abhilash Bhardwaj ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/abhilash-bhardwaj-6000b7b4/ ), last time (DRDO- Advt -136 for Scientist-B) I was one of selected students for Scientist -B position in Computer Science discipline.

I will include some of my experiences so that it can help future aspirants to crack this examination. I request you to read the entire post.

First I am including last year question papers:

DRDO CS-Paper 1   https://drive.google.com/open?id=13t9T291s2S2QCCC8qjCfBkzBCQGU3PNW

DRDO CS- Paper 2  https://drive.google.com/open?id=13sbVEMqmndQZk9Wgcvz6tPoDJCPMy3ER

Some suggestions related to Descriptive Examination:

  • First of all you must complete the entire gate syllabus, and don’t start with additional syllabus. Major portion consist of GATE CS syllabus except Hypervisor in OS and some other topics.

  • Now come to cyber security, Whatever syllabus is mentioned you can do them but last year trend reflect major element of network security like buffer overflow attacks, TCP SYN flooding attack, DNS spoofing attack, DNS Cache Poisoning, Man-in-the-middle, Ping to death attack, Denial of service attack, DDoS and many more. So focus should be given to them as well. (Soon I will try to make a consolidated list of attacks and issues.)

  • For Machine Learning , Last year asked questions on Simple linear regression, TF-IDF representation of Text documents, Overfitting and underfitting problems and some elements of classification problems. ML is a wide area, so you cannot cover each and everything. ( Here also I will try to make a list of topics you should read.)

  • Again, my request is to start with the GATE syllabus,  (GATE aspirants have only solved objective questions), here we need to solve everything like semester examination in a neat and clean way. Here questions can be like building CLR tables, proving using pumping lemma, writing code for Dining Philosopher Problem, Writing assembly language programs etc. So you need to change your strategy slightly. Rather than asking how many NAND gates required for XOR, they will ask you to draw it.

  • For additional topics like ML and Security, interested people can contact me.

I will post my DRDO interview experience after descriptive examination.

Thanks for reading !!!

Hi, since there was no posts on today's exam I thought I'll create one. I felt it was moderate to difficult and lengthy. What about you guys, how did it go ? Some questions were really easy but I felt if I had more time I could have solved them. Questions from COA were really really easy and some questions from algo and DL took time. I made some obvious silly mistakes because of the time constraints I had. My first mistake was jumping right into technical and saving not enough time for aptitude section. There were 12-15 MSQs . I think I might give GATE again next year with ample practice (which I didn't) I also took coaching from a pretty famous guy who sold himself and his channel recently.( which was a waste of my money and time. Some might have benefited but I honestly didn't. I found out about GO after I bought the course. This is my honest view and I'm just trying to create awareness amongst others and not trying to create conflicts.) Believe me GO is more than enough for anyone out there preparing for GATE. (Thanks @arjun sir and GO team)
P.S I had only 2 months to prepare for GATE. All the best for next year guys .

Edit: We will be having a Test at 9 pm, on first Sunday of every month till November. The syllabus for the test will be as per GATE 2020 schedule which should start from June. Till then, the tests will be based mostly on basic Algorithm skills and Aptitude. Test 1 is on google form but remaining tests will be added on GO Exams. Please verify your account before trying to take them.

FAQs

  1. What’s the advantage in taking the test?
    • Main advantage is to know where you stand currently in terms of expected GATE performance. In addition those who perform well will be added to an Elite list in GO who can get restricted privileges like Mentioning admins on any posts, take any tests etc. Also see FAQ 3.
  2. Is it same as any Test Series?
    • No. You won’t be getting a lot of questions as in any test series. The focus of the questions will be more on showing the typical weak points one might have. For Test Series, you can visit Exams Tab and there are plenty of tests.
  3. Will there be any mentoring for aspirants?
    • No. Since most of the toppers in GO are self mentored and enough resources are available for it, there won’t be any one-to-one mentoring for any aspirants. But those who top the tests and selected to the Elite group will be given more discussion options and once the system subjects starts – mainly COA, Compilers, CN, OS – all their doubts will be cleared. For theory subjects, some notes/slides will be added on GO classroom where ever required.
  4. What if I’m scoring too low in the tests?
    • If you are scoring too low – say bottom 20 percentile consistently it means in GATE it will be tough to get within 5000 rank. So, you should decide what to do now rather than after GATE2020.

Test 1 – Over on May 5

Test 2 – Coming on June 2 – Topics: General Aptitude, Basic C programming, Data Structures (those who have done coding can answer the questions without any further preparation)

Hi, all, toppers of this year, congratulations to you for your success.

Now, many of you have got good ranks which is enough to get a TA position in top IITs. Some some of you may have to face RA interviews.

In most of the IITs, the autumn semester starts from July. Considering that, you have ample amount of time to learn something relevant to the topics that you are willing to pursue in IITs. This would help you to decide your area of interest ( for your master thesis and seminar and all ).

There is a Moodle site called "go-classroom" ( http://classroom.gateoverflow.in) initiated by Arjun Suresh Sir last year. You may join the M.Tech section to get updates related to M.Tech courses, relevant lecture, assignments, useful links, and many more useful stuff.

The section is not updated yet, but it will be updated soon.

Someone showed me CCMT brochure this time. It seemed unnecessarily complex but due to lack of coordination from non participating Institutes this might be the best they could do. Anyway for CSE, I'll try to demystify many things.

First, this is what a typical candidate must do:

  1. Fill the choices in the order they prefer. If you do not have a preference going by last year filling is not so bad - Last year stats
  2. Until you are allotted a place, you need not do anything
  3. If you are allotted never take "Freezing" option unless you are 100% sure you do not want any option higher -- but int hat case why they were given higher? Anyway use this with care
  4. Sliding choice is also similar. It is to be used when a candidate liked the institute so much and does not want to move out
  5. Floating should be the default option

Regarding Internal Sliding

This happens after 3rd round on June 11 and NSR vacancy listing on July 4. What happens here is if a seat in any department becomes vacant, someone who is allotted seat FOR ANY PROGRAM in THAT INSTITUTE is given that seat in order of merit. In my opinion this is against overall merit and is a sick procedure. Anyway that is how it is and they have at least made this public. So, now candidates have to use more logic while seat filling. I'll try to give some inputs. There is a 3 week gap for internal sliding. During this time many research admission lists will be published starting from IISc., and at least 30 people would be moving away from NITs. Also this time PSU allotment might come around this time which can cause more sliding. So, if you have a preferred institute, do fill for ALL programs you are eligible there.

NSR Rounds

NSR round is less of a lottery as they publish the vacancy and allotment happens in order of merit. But due to internal sliding we can never know if any branch seat will get vacant. Usually the highest preferred program (say Computer Science) in a college, gets fully filled during Internal sliding and the following program (say Information Security) seats come for NSR round. But this round is not meant for poor general/OBC candidates as they have to pay  Rs 42,200 for this.

Recruitment to the post of Scientist-B /Engineer of  Advertisement Number (ISRO: ICRB:02(EMC):2023):

54

BARC SCIENTIST OCES/DGFS 2023

Welcome to 2024. The first job notification of this year is BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Center)  for the post of Scientist -B whose notification is out.

This year:

  1. BARC 2024 gate cutoff $812$
  2. BARC 2024 CBT cutoff $107$
55

Guess most of you are eagerly waiting for response sheets to be out. It can come anytime but can also take a few days. Anyway just wanted to tell a few things.

  1. Your GATE rank may get you an IISc/IIT seat
  2. GATE is not the only exam for doing Master studies; IIITH, BITS are very good and so do CMI, ISI, IIST etc. I dont know how many even applied for JEST exam which is next week. This exam can get you a seat in even IISc. While many people are arguing for the imaginary questions and their solutions, smart people are eagerly preparing for this exam.
  3. Some people continuously take stupid decisions in their life -- I'm telling from a real life example I'm seeing now. This is your life, decide wisely. All the information you can get from Google but in the end you should use your "brain" to process them.
  4. Dropping is not for everyone - last year I made a video explicitly saying who all should definitely NOT DROP. Interestingly even those who liked those videos went on to drop. Anyway it is your or your parent's money, and your time.
  5. Once rank predictor is up, I’ll be adding some real world (open source) assignments. It’ll be hard but definitely worth doing whether you are a GATE topper or not. Once you get experienced with real world stuff, you’ll be valuable like an IIScian or IITian.

GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING 2024

ORGANIZING INSTITUTE: INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, BENGALURU

IISc Bengaluru organizes GATE 2024. Official notifications have been released.

Some suggestions from my side:

  1. Be ready with your fundamental concepts, and knowledge, mathematical background. Not every time paper was easy like GATE 2023  IIT Kanpur.
  2. To score well in this exam, don't ask "what to read", you must know "what should not read".
  3. Try to know the ideas/concepts about the topics but don't do a Ph.D. on particular topics/subjects. do not spend too much time on single subjects.
  4. Read the subject from standard resources (do not follow too many books for single subjects.) and cross-check, and verify your coaching notes if you join any.
  5.  Do not follow so many university/lecture videos for a single topic, stick to the one.
  6. Make a timetable and follow it, track your preparations, and make a good friend circle (gate field).
  7. Use your internet facility for your betterment.
  8. Don’t ignore or postpone your maths and aptitude till November-December. put 1 hour daily form now.
  9. Try to complete your syllabus as soon as possible. Again it depends on the students but ideally, they complete everything at the end of October (exceptions are there). start with easy subjects so that you will get confidence. Don't aim for $X$ marks for $Y$ IIT. Just go with the flow.
  10. Solve your doubt immediately, and take help from your gate overflow website, GOOGLE, or teachers.
  11. Try to make short notes/ formula sheets/mistake copy etc whichever you find better for your preparations.
  12. Don't stop yourself. Practice more and more questions. avoid low-quality questions, understand the importance of PYQ, analyze the options, and try to solve NAT questions more, for MSQ read the theory.
  13. Don't be afraid to give tests. try to give as many as a test, use gate overflow for questions practices, and don't go anywhere. do not follow any YouTube brand name/ big coaching-funded company ( they all are“naam bade darshan chote”)
  14.  Do all your silly mistake today. try to purchase at least 2 test series from different institutes so that you can check your level. Give all of its tests. don't listen to any random topper that I have given $<10-15$ mock test and I get the rank (Hawa mai bat karna). At the beginning of the mock test, marks will fluctuate, give them until you get desired marks
  15. Put aside your relationship, hangout, late-night call, friend's birthday, farewell party, college fest, relative marriage, projects, coding (you will get enough time after the gate for this), and all nonsense, they all can wait but time will not.
  16. Try to deactivate your all social media accounts. (it is up to you) and focus on your GOAL.
  17. Don't stop until you reach your dreams IIT/IISc/PSU.

Good Luck 2 all of you.

After GATE most of you will have one main question – where will I get admit. For this, last year cutoff is a good metric. But again many of the cutoffs are not available. Thanks to gatecselastrank.com most of the available details and also any relevant official links can be found. In this post I’ll quickly summarize some relevant information.

  1.  In 2019, for CSE all IISc/IIT except IITK/D were doing direct admit. (This does not include some related courses like IISc. AI, IISc CDS etc. and some new IITs where there were interviews). In 2020, even IITK will be doing direct admit.
  2. For Research admissions there are always interviews and this year also it should be the case.
  3. Expected last ranks for DIRECT ADMITS this year is as follows (after the last round and not the first round)
      Gen EWS OBC NCL
    IISc CSA 70-110 80-130 300-400
    IITB TA 70-130 80-150 300-400
    IITM/D/K/Kgp 200-250 220-300 450-650
    IITG/H/R 300-360 350-430 650-1000
  4. For NIT cutoffs you can see last year CCMT stats and convert the score cutoff to rank.

  5. If you are general and your rank is 250-2000, you should be preparing for interviews as well as for IIITH/BITS

  6. If your rank is worse than 2000 and you are general, there is no good option available via GATE – you might get some lower NITs which is not worth going especially if you do not have good technical skills. IIITH/BITS are still an option.

  7. New IITs are worth going if you can find a good faculty to work under. Most of them may not have enough quality professors and placement setup also may not be properly established. If you are thinking about REPEAT please watch this video

  8. Regarding how to prepare for interviews, all the information you can get HERE thanks to Balaji Jagan and at the following links thanks to Lakshman Patel.

    13. https://gateoverflow.in/blog/9740/gate-cse-nsit-admissions

  9. For those not expecting any good admissions you have the following options

    1. Try for GRE

    2. Give exams like ISRO, NIELIT etc where the questions are a lot different from GATE and practice does translate to a good rank

    3. Try for CAT or MBA abroad

    4. Try for a job

    5. If you know how to get a good rank, you can repeat. Otherwise you can join a coaching and at least help run their business

    6. I’m not a life coach – I’m only passing you whatever information I have. Please do not ask me for advise.
