I had a score of 733 and rank 506 in CSE.

You can apply to following courses:

1.Mtech at IIT Kanpur:2016 cutoff for round 2 was about 728 score .After that you need to clear written test, programming test and /or interviews.

2.Mtech Research (CSA) at IISC Bangalore: Cutoff was about 650 rank in 2016.After that there is a written test and interview.

3.MTech Research at IIT Bombay :2016 Cutoff was approx 650 rank. There will be written test, programming test and later interviews, interviews will be technology /project specific eg linux/java depending upon requirements each year.

4.MS at IIT Kanpur :For summers cutoff was 750 gate score whereas for winter admissions it was much lesser (<730 gate score), there will be tests and interviews.

5.MS at IIT Madras :There criteria in 2016 was 70%in B. Tech and decent gate score. People under 1200 rank have fair chances. There will be a written test and interview. for More details regarding ms at IITM can be found here:http://wp.me/p7HCaA-5

6.MTech at IIT Roorkee:Recently IITR converted half of their seats to self financed. Fee will be about 1 lakh per sem and you will not be given stipends. Since this is a costly option, I have kept it at last.

In short, you have plenty of opportunities, just make sure you are prepared to grab them since at this rank direct admission at IIT’s is rare.

I am sharing my email coversation with IITGN academic department.

I have asked a bunch Question, since little to no information is provided by the IITGN on their official website.

MY MAIL ————>

Hello,

I am considering to apply for the PGDIIT, but there is little to no information provided about this program on your official website.

Here are some major questions regarding the program.

1. What is the fees of PGDIIT program ?

2. Will IITGN allow the students of PGDIIT program to sit for the placement and provide the same placement opportunity similar to the students of MTech program?

3. What will be the syllabus/ course structure of PGDIIT for CSE?

4. Will IITGN allow the students of PGDIIT to covert their Diploma to MTech ?

5. Will the PGDIIT program students be allowed the opportunity of Internship? If so then for how many months can PGDIIT student can pursue internship?

6. Major differentiating factors between PGDIIT and Mtech?

NOTE:

please try to add the above relevant information to your website.

Yours sincerely,

SG

REPLY FROM IITGN ACADEMICS DEPARTMENT

Dear Saurabh,

Please find below response to your queries:

Q 1. Fees:

For PGDIIT the semester wise fee structure is as follows:

a) Admission fee (one time payment) - Rs. 6500

b) Refundable Security Deposit (one time payment) - Rs. 5,000

c) Semester Fee (inclusive of Tuition fee and other allied charges) - Rs. 47,500

d) Mess and laundry advance - Rs. 19,000

Q 2 & 5. IITGN supports PGDIIT students for placement and internship. However, the statistics varies as it depends on the student's performance as well as the placement/internship opportunities available for the year for PGDIIT students.

Q 3. For the admission test there is no specific syllabus. Once admitted a student can register for courses (floated for the semester) in consultation with his Faculty Advisor.

Q 4.  It is usually not permitted.

Q 5. M.tech is a two year degree programme whereas PGDIIT is a diploma.

The importance of previous years’ questions on Gate Exam is very high, most of the question in gate exam revolve around the previous 15 years questions....

These previous years’ question will give us a good understanding of what types of question they will ask in the exam, so we can make our preparation in that direction....

If I revise a subject, I take previous GATE questions and see if I can solve them. If not I revise again. Finally I'll solve them even after 1-2 days….

For ambiguous, confusing, difficult questions solutions might be worth looking.

But anyway after maximum 10 questions from a subject- one should know what to expect in GATE from that subject.

At this stage one can stop solving....

PS: Never run behind test series......

After completing a subject i solves 15 year pyq if i stuck in any question then i refer to notes. If i have not studied that topic then i looks solution…

This tip is very important specially when very less time is left in your GATE exam. In this time, you should focus only on solving previous year GATE question papers instead of your GATE study material question papers.

These question papers (ISRO, DRDO, etc) might have very difficult and challenging problems, but the focus of the GATE exam is on your aptitude, rather than the depth of the subject.

Therefore in my opinion, it’s better to solve last 15 year GATE question papers multiple times rather than solving questions from other material….

If you really want a good rank in GATE, then you should utilize your last month in solving last 15 year papers at least twice. You can easily do this by solving at least one paper a day. I would suggest you that after getting up in the morning, first of all solve at least one GATE question paper….

While solving the paper, keep in mind that you are sitting in the exam room. You can’t refer any books, notes or solutions and you have just 3 hours time limit.

After that you will be free to spent rest of the day in analyzing the question paper & your mistakes, revising notes and solving solving difficult problems etc…

I would also like to share my own experience which might help people who are working in some company. When I was preparing for my GATE Computer Science 2022 exam, in which I could achieve I used to get up between 4-5 am and then solve at least one question paper before going to office.

Then in free time , I used to analyze the paper & my mistakes and discuss the difficult problems with my friend. Revising of the notes was used to be done by me mostly in evening....

I hope it will help you in managing your preparation time ….

P.S. If you liked this tip, then I would like to request you to like it and share it with your friends. If possible, you can also share your experience in the comment, which might help other people..…

Respected Seniors,
I know You will be seeing most of the questions like this and you are tired of answering this.
But I have no other hope unless seeking trusted seniors. Answer only when you are free .
Here is my story :
Iam a first timer general category student who started preparation with high hopes and with flying wheels in august 2018, But in course  of time I lose some motivation and prepared lightly. I wont blame my college nor resources provided by college as it is Tier 3 college. In the end I have to be blamed.

I scored 47 marks as per praggy app and now I don’t know what to do because as per it my rank is around 3000. I know with that rank I shall not get any good colleges.

My options :

1.Drop 1 year prepare again – I don’t know how will be the situations during next year and as Arjun sir told in PPT most of the people will be in same range even after repeating.

2.I have Infosis job as a fresher with 3.6 lpa. So most of the people suggesting go to job and write again. I don’t know how much this will work ???

3.With My rank join the best college that I get and repeat again.

4. Joining job and settle in it and giving up on Gate.

Which option is best and if there are any other suggest them... Thank you !!!

66

barc result 2018 will be available from 3pm (20th april) ....now 8pm......best of luck .

Just saving this post for the reference for future aspirants. One can read the comments made by the IITR professor justifying 0.33. Had I given GATE and suffered this I would have gone to court against this stupidity.

1. Which one should be preferred among NITT Data analytics and NITK Information security? Or should I go for CSE in lower NIT's (AIR-475 General)?

2. Should IIITB be preferred over the NIT's mentioned above? How good is it considering the difference in fees?
69
I have AIR-223 in Gate 18 and I might get direct admission in IIT-G  and IIT-R but I just had a confusion where if people like me who are left with these choices or maybe no choice in any IIT's how seriously should they consider IIIT-H because 8/10 posts on the internet tells me IIIT-H has a better CSE curriculum and exposure than IIT-Guwahati or Roorkee. I would like the experts to guide me here who have an experience and know much more about these colleges than many of us. I have cleared PGEE but I am not sure whether I should go for their interviews or take up IIT-G instead. Any Help is very much appreciated..
70
What is your score and expected cut off? How long will it be before the results are announced?

After the GATE exam, I searched on YouTube and for blogs from students. I wanted to know what it’s like to do an M.Tech at the IITs. However, I felt like there’s not enough information from a student’s perspective. Anything related to this subject focuses mainly on the placement interviews of people who got fat packages or one, two-digit ranks. There is a severe lack of information about the 2 years that happen in between.

Take for example this blog by an IIT Delhi student. It gave me a satisfying amount of information about the M.Tech course and life at the college. There’s info about the courses they do, the projects they make, the amount of programming involved, advice for someone choosing that college and more helpful stuff. It made me wish that there were more similar blogs from students at other IITs.

I’m aware that there is not much difference in the faculty, curriculum, placements and to some extent, the hostel life at all top IITs. You cannot go wrong in choosing any of them. But still, I believe that the postgraduates should share more.

My request is a simple one – the future students of M.Tech courses at IITs should try to share their experiences. Hopefully it’ll match the amount of GATE preparation advice, interview and written test experiences available on the internet.

75
Good Exam with moderate difficulty, your opinions?

Hi,

I am really confused as to which college I might get with GATE Marks of 50. Please tell at best and worst what college (general category) I might get in counseling (including spot rounds). I have used the gateoverflow college suggestion tool and previous year admissions responses, but they aren't helping much.

Would really appreciate some answers.

Thanks

Hello friends !! Good morning to you all..I know being an aspirant like you all the post that I am going to write should be in view of as much aspirants as possible..Although myself not getting that good rank this year , but still I want to forget the day as soon as possible..

The matter about which I am discussing now is regarding counselling based on my previous year experience..I am writing this at this juncture because many have started filling the forms..

So last year IIT KGP and IIT G did not have spot round for admission..So seat filling is not assured in all IITs..Thats why some suggestions from my side :

a) Those who are getting rank around 50-60 should not apply for IIT K , IIT M and IIT D as they will get IISC Bengaluru / IIT B easily(If not in 1st round , then in 2nd round or 3rd round)..

b) Now IIT M,IIT K and IIT D are similar..So it is not suggested to fill in all of these..If one's rank is around 120-130 , one would get IIT KGP in worst case easily n even IIT M..So in this scenario if one's preference is IIT M , then please do not apply for IIT K/IIT D or vice versa..

c) Thirdly if one gets say around 160 - 170 rank , then he / she would get IIT KGP conveniently..So plz do not apply for IIT G/IIT R/IIT H..If I remember properly only 1-2 student out of 23 students in general category took admission in IIT G finally who were given seats in the first round of counseling..So in other words , the entire round was a waste..So my point is if someone's preference is IIT R , then please do not apply for IIT G or vice versa (Myself was a victim of this ; could have got a seat in IIT G last yr only else)..

I have written this keeping in view of the prevalent counseling system..So if the system does not get bettered , and if at least we become a bit responsible then also the scenario gets bettered to good extent for many..

And I would have written this post if I were get the top rank this year as well which is not going to happen for me this year as opposed to my dreams..But anyways as a piece of suggestion I have written it.I can only suggest and not force anyone..So it is my heartful request to look into this and also no one should take it personally( I mean those who are getting good ranks )..

Thank you all..

There are a lot of articles on the substandard Indian education system which is primarily caused by teachers be taken via recruitment exams where questions are copied from some guide books. But plagiarism does not stop there -- it is like corruption. Most students are also culprits of it. As of now, there are 36984 answers on this site -- how many of them will hit a 100% score for being exactly copied from somewhere without reference? This number is not too low. I do not know what these people strive for -- if you copy you are neither serving yourself nor others. Remember if you get accustomed to this habit, then even if you score a top rank in GATE you will get expelled from IIT/IISc for copying in assignments. You may refer anywhere, understand others points and views; but finally whatever you write must be in your own words. A good reviewer does not need any fancy AI technique to determine if something is copied. All answers on GO will be going through a plagiarism check and all copied ones will be removed with penalty points be given to those users. I hope the students here will be genuine and show a good path for future generation. GO should be a pride place for Indian CS students.
