Hello everyone,

I got AIR 302 in GATE 2017. So, here's my GATE journey and experience on this awesome community.

I was introduced to GATE Overflow last year by one of my friends who is doing M.Tech in IIT Kanpur. It was around the time when IISc Bangalore released the answer key for GATE 2016, and everyone was predicting their rank in the GO App. Yes, 2016 was my first attempt, and I got AIR 3935 in that. Once I predicted my rank, I knew what was coming, and decided to drop an year and reappear next year.

My Preparation: I had a habit of reading textbooks during semesters. While the rest of my friends read the University Question Bank before exams, I used to read textbooks. So, I had finished majority of the textbooks (Galvin for OS, CLRS for Algorithm, some part of Forouzan for CN etc) during B.Tech itself. But I was not motivated to take GATE. As a result, I didn't practice anything, didn't take mock tests and simply went for GATE 2016. The result was a 4 digit rank.

I started my GATE 2017 preparation from 2nd April, 2016. This time I focused more on practice. Since, I had read some textbooks already during B.Tech, I didn't read them again. Instead, I filled up the blanks in my preparation from online lectures, NPTEL, Ankur Gupta notes etc. I finished my syllabus by September end. During the last 4 months, I solved all previous GATE questions thrice, and attempted mock tests to master time management skills and accuracy.

Exam Day: I got Set-1. One thing I learnt from the test series is not to panic on stressed situations. It worked for me. But since Set-1 was a bit tricky, my attempts were low (47/65) because I spent some extra time on few questions (like RSA Algorithm question).

Its okay, everyone cannot get into top 100. But I had learnt few lessons that day.

My GateOverflow Learnings: I started using GATE Overflow full fledged from October. I used to post my doubts (maximum silly, a few very good) and got answers within hours. One of my problems initially was that I couldn't take criticisms. So, whenever someone downvoted my answers/comments, I used to hide those (There is a Hide option for everything you post). GateOverflow gradually helped me in overcoming my that problem, and I am thankful to the members for the same.

Thank you Arjun Sir, for your so precise explanations. Thank you Bikram Sir, for your support. And I didn't wish to write a blog (because I was a bit disturbed because of my rank. A little better would have kept me on a safe side). Thank you Bikram Sir, for motivating me yesterday to write it.

A year ago if someone has said to me that I'm going to get this result I wouldn't have believed them, hell I wouldn't have believed it myself 4 months ago. Because before December 20, the day since I started using GO for preparation or I should say I actually started my preparation I was not even prepared for qualifying the exam. It was GO that took me from 5000 rank like preparation to 5.

I think what makes GO great is the community. You can find answers to questions from numerous sources but GO is the only place where you can contradict those answer, get contradicted and have a productive discussion where no matter if you were right or wrong before but you will end up better informed after. In the 50 days that I used GO I have asked a lot of questions some may be stupid or too easy for others but remember gate is an easy exam and all those stupid and basic questions you skip today will haunt you on the day of the exam. So my only advice to other aspirants is, don't be afraid to ask.  Ask for help and there always be someone to help you here at GO.

Thank You GO for all the help...

Gateoverflow is best source of previous year question and place to get your doubts solved. Answers on Gateoverflow are very nice and informative, they not only tell what answer is but also entire process how answer is derived and give total idea about that question.  I found Gateoverflow very useful in my Gate preparation. Experts like Arjun Suresh, Praveen Saini and others are always present to solve any doubts an aspirant can get. Gateoverflow book of previous year questions along with answers is best study material anyone will need. Gateoverflow answer key this time was 99%+ correct. Overall I can say that If you are preparing for Gate computer Science , using Gateoverflow is MUST now.

Gatecse is best source of study material. I found great lectures of Shai Simpson and others there. I found best collection of books, links to various toppers blog and last years analysis.Gatecse is resource which any serious aspirant should know about.

I want to thank founder of this website Arjun suresh, for discussing with me regarding study strategy and many other issues related to GATE. Keep doing good work :)

I got GS : 618, rank : 1855 and marks : 53.67 in GATE 2019.

I’m not a topper, I didn’t get even under 1000 rank, so why will you read my testimonial about GO? Totally depends on you. GO doesn’t need any testimonial to prove that it’s THE first and ultimate option for Gate Aspirants.

Unfortunately, I came across Gate Overflow during mid-September of 2018, when Gate-2019 was only a few months away. But within only 2-3 months, GO raised my exposure level from 20% to 90%

So, why does so many people believe in Gate Overflow?

Reasons? These many:

                       for(i = 0; i >=0; i++) {

                                 count++;

                       }

ENVIRONMENT

One of the main reasons is that GO provides you an environment, which generally you don’t get, especially if you are from a tier-3 engineering college. The posts from other aspirants, challenging questions, and even more challenging comments, all these things made me realize what a cut-throat, yet healthy competition is going around for Gate.

EXPOSURE

I got to know a lot about Gate, and what to do after Gate . I came to know about IIITH PGEE, BITS HD, ISI, CMI, TIFR and other highly anticipated examinations and their value. I came across various myth-breaking things about Gate. This kind of exposure is much needed for a student who doesn’t belong to any prestigious institute.

GO PDF

GO PDF is like the Bible for the Gate aspirants. A single PDF, containing years of information and knowledge about the exam of your life. The best thing I liked about GO PDF is that it is directly linked to the Gate Overflow discussion forum. If you couldn’t understand any solution, just a single click takes you into a realm of knowledge, where highly intellectual people have discussed all the approaches to solve that problem.

GATE CSE

This website is really helpful, and when i say “really”, I mean “seriously really helpful”. It contains all the resources which you could possibly need for Gate preparation. From reference book to the recommended lectures, everything is properly researched and mentioned here.

GATE OVERFLOW WEBSITE

Test by mentors, interview experiences, preparation strategy, what to do for a good rank, what NOT to do for a good rank, How to be ready for Masters after Gate, you just name it, and you will find here. Featured questions will tell you the level of difficulty of Gate exam.

RANK & COLLEGE PREDICTOR

One of the best statistical analysis tool I have seen in my life. I don’t know what magical machine learning algorithm it uses, which makes it 99.99% accurate. It’s a wonderful gift from Pragy Sir. I got calls from exactly the colleges which were mentioned in the green list and blue list. The answer keys provided by GO are 100% accurate, even IITs change their original keys as per GO keys.

GO CLASSROOM

Instead of wasting your money in a coaching institute and getting spoonfed knowledge from there, join GO CLASSROOM. Doubt solving, discussions, live interaction with mentors, these things are a fortune for someone who is doing self-study for Gate. I will not say anything more about it, join and see for yourself.

And last but not the least……

MENTORS

The Godfather of Gate Overflow, Arjun Sir, an intellectual being, a treasure of knowledge; and I’m not buttering because he doesn’t care about it. I like his sarcastic and straight-forward behaviour, which sometimes leaves you in splits, and many times you will be amazed. I don’t know about his life, I’m just a fan of his knowledge and his way to approach any problem. Just see his answers to previous year questions and you will get the feeling – “Yeah! Man, that’s how you solve a damn problem”. Not only him, but other mentors like Digvijay Sir who helped me during interview preparation after Gate exam, and Bikram Sir who devoted his life to help and guide gate aspirants, and many unknown people who are constantly putting in their efforts to improve the level of education by promoting self-study and self-gaining of knowledge. I don’t think even in my wildest dreams that without these people, I could’ve achieved what I have today.

Even at such a low score and being from General category, I got calls from IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Delhi and IIT Patna.

I also gave PGEE for IIIT Hyderabad, and cleared the written exam and interview, and got MS in CSE by Research in one of the best institutes in India; and without GO it would’ve been almost impossible.

Thanks to each and every member of GO Community.

I would like to thank Gate Overflow for helping me in this journey to IIT Kanpur, Especially I would like to thank Arjun Suresh Sir, Bikran Ballav Sir and my friends Pratyush and Habib to be with me in the whole counselling process.

Gate Overflow is a platform where people are available 24*7 for the gate aspirants.
There are no books in the market that have all the correct solutions to the previous year gate problems. Here at gate overflow we can not just solve a problem but we can discuss it with the people who are master in the field. GateOverflow Test Series questions matches the level of the gate paper and it was  very helpful to analyze the preparation. Gate book  was really helpful when i had to practice a particular topic. In this book all the questions are placed at one place related to particular topic. And various solutions to the questions are given.

For Gate Aspirants

"गते शोको न
कर्तव्यो भविष्यं नैव चिंतयेत्।
वर्तमानेन कालेन वर्तयंति विचक्षणाः॥"

This means "One should not regret the past. One should not worry about the future.
Wise men act by the present time"

and finally a big thanks to GO Family.

Hi, I got AIR 4 in Gate Cse 2016. I will like to share about Gate Overflow.

Gate Overflow is a a very good website for Gate CSE Preparation. It has an edge over other preparation material & coaching classes.

  • It's free
  • you can learn from home(with comfort) - lots of time can be saved here
  • for a person studying from home, it gets difficult to create gate preparation environment , here in right side chat box people talk about Gate mostly. It helps in building the appropriate Environment for Gate at your Home.
  • I have noticed that coaching classes teach some extra things, that consume your time unnecessarily , so you can avoid those things here. you can choose what question to study & what not to , based on previous gate questions.
  • many gate toppers are here , so nice answers come - Its a very nice way , U directly get cream concepts.

Two things matter in Gate Preparation - right concepts & then practice those concepts - both u can get here.

You should extract Good Concepts from trusted, selected answers & practice a lot here.

Best wishes to all future Gate Aspirants.

Hello all, I am Venkat from hyderabad.

I secured AIR 35 in GATE 2017.

I would really thank Gate Overflow Community for helping me achieve my goal. The answers to previous year questions given here are really amazing and they helped me a lot in gaining the correct concept and thinking in the right way.I did not take any coaching and just applied for test series. I came across GO in middle of my preparation and i personally felt that tests were waste if u solve the previous questions.Gate is all about concepts and one can learn it here by solving the previous year questions. The discussions by Arjun sir on decidability problems were awesome. Also i would really thank Arjun sir for keeping me motivated and inspired through his posts.

I would like to thank all the members of Gate Overflow for beautiful answers.

Note: Many are asking how did u use GO without an account? Actually when i was preparing, i didn't get the requirement to create an account and just followed it as a guest. Now i created it for writing the testimonial. There is no need of an account to see all the activity and answers.

I joined Gate Overflow in 2016 to prepare for GATE. As I had a Electronics and Telecomm. background, I had to start the subject from the base (except some subjects like programming and Digital Logic). For preparing I diligently followed Gate Overflow for previous year GATE questions and followed all the books and videos(specially lectures by Shai Simonson) recommended on the website.

In the end my rank was rather dissappointing (AIR 2803-GEN) mainly due to ignoring COA, OS and making too many mistakes on the final day. But GO helped me in developing a good understanding of the core CS topics, specially Data Structures, Algorithms, Theory of Computation and Discrete Maths. I was again preparing this year for GATE but luckily got shortlisted for MS (winter admissions) at IIT Kanpur, and finally got selected after the written test, programming test and interview. The conceptual understanding developed really helped in interview where the professors grill you on the fundamentals.

I want to thank Arjun Sir for creating this wonderful platform and all the other super awesome contributors who take special effort to make the concepts clear, rather than relying on cheap tricks. It is helpful for anyone who is interested in CS, regardless of whether he is appearing for GATE or not.

So, Finally it comes to write a testimonial after writing answers, asking questions, comments here.

I must say that CS students are extremely lucky/fortunate to have GO for GATECSE preparation. So, first thanks to @Arjun Sir, for creating this platform, maintaining GO and answering queries even now.

Although there is GO book for past year problems but i preferred solving questions from Gateoverflow because of discussions here. Those discussions gave me answer to many related questions that didn't came to me.

Many points in my notes are from answers and comments here.

Thanks GO for providing right solution to many Test Series Questions and correcting questions itself at various occasions. Thanks for Rank Predicter due to which Final Result wasn't a big surprise.

Thanks Dhananjay, for helping me with my stupid doubts when i was new to GO around aug'16. ( I can remember commenting @vijaycs in every question when i was new ). Thanks Anirudh, Habib, Debashish and Kapil for your great answers and your special help to my silly messages. and how can i forget Sushant, Prajwal, Rajesh, Shobhit and srestha for your help.

To GATE18 onwards aspirants I must say : A doubt is a doubt. Get it cleared at earliest. Don't hesitate to ask even a simple query. (don't think what other users will think of you)

Thanks Gateoverflow !! It feels great to be $\tt  AIR-28$ as a final year EE undergrad. I can say for sure that without Gateoverflow the outcome of GATE'17 journey wouldn't be what it is today.

I kept using gate overflow for solutions which I didn’t understand when I was solving PYQs from my classes book. In November I came across GO PDFs. I solved all the questions again during December – January and checked many solutions and comments. Many solutions completely changed my understanding to topics. The community is the best with so many knowledgeable people and aspirants. We also get multiple approaches to same problem as many users have uploaded their own solution. Gatecse website also has amazing resources like video links, question papers, etc. I did not use it much but it was also very helpful. Also, the rank predictor was so perfect that it was unbelievable.

Predicted Rank: 26 – 31, Actual Rank: 26

And now it also has subject wise marks.

Finally, I would like to say thank you to Arjun Sir and GO community for helping GATE CSE aspirants throughout our gate journey. Without this portal, atleast my journey would have been a bumpy one.

Thank you. :)
52

I got 53 marks and AIR 477 in GATE CS 2022. I decided to write about my journey because posts from other students on GO were a constant source of motivation for me when I was preparing. I hope this post acts as a motivation for someone like me.

Why GATE?

i. To be good at CS concepts - Halfway through my B.Tech, I realized that I don’t have proper knowledge about my field. I was simply passing (and failing) my subjects. I didn’t want to graduate like this. I wanted to have an expertise in all aspects of CS. Preparing for GATE seemed to me the best way to do that.

ii. Studying at an IIT - Environment and peer group matter a lot. I studied at a below average school till class 10th. When I joined DPS Bokaro in 11th, everything was new and challenging. The exams were tough to score in, my classmates were all smart (some were child prodigies) and from much better backgrounds than me. Also there were more things to manage other than academics. It was difficult but those 2 years evolved me as a person. I expected something similar to happen if I went to an IIT. GATE was a chance to do that.

Strategy and preparation

I didn’t have a strategy, actually. I started my preparation from 27 April 2021 with a few simple goals in mind - I’ll study everyday, I’ll do everything to properly understand a concept and I won’t overdo things. Last part was important for me because I tend to get obsessed with things and burn out.

I studied C first. After finishing the book I solved PYQs from GO hardcopy. PYQs are compulsory because these are the questions that we have to answer in the exam. Solving them helps to get an idea of difficulty level. It also helps in identifying and practicing concepts that were asked multiple times.

For the rest of the subjects, I didn’t have a standard book. Reading PDFs doesn’t work for me because I can’t retain stuff that well. I bought postal study material from ACE and collected NPTEL playlists for each subject. Everyday I used only these two resources to study. I learnt a topic, made notes and did the questions at the back. By the time I was finished with all the playlists and postal books, I had a good understanding of almost every topic. It was finished by around 15 September.

I didn’t start the test series (I had 2) at that time because I felt like it’s too early and if I started giving tests then I'd be really bored of giving exams by the time of actual GATE. I decided to use this time to buy and study standard books. Because I had already completed the syllabus once, going through a book didn’t take a lot of time. This phase also served as my revision. I did the exercises at the back if they were similar to GATE questions.

I started my test series in November. I solved topic tests first, then subject tests, then full tests. I gave at least 1 test everyday and sometimes more depending on the duration of the test. Solving tests is compulsory. It teaches time management and improves speed and accuracy. For me, solving topic and subject tests served as my second revision. After each full test, I took a break and tried to solve the wrong questions again. I used GO to ask if I thought my solution was correct instead of the provided solution. For the questions I couldn’t solve, I thought about it for a few minutes and reviewed the topic. If I still couldn’t solve it, I looked at the solution. I used to write down any mistakes that I made again and again.

Till 15-20 January, I was bored of tests. I stopped giving them about 5 days before the GATE exam. During that time, I reviewed my notes and formula copy. I also looked at the mistakes I had made in tests.

Conclusion

I ended up with a rank that I’m satisfied with. But I’m more happy with the fact that I gave my best effort. I managed to do what I had planned - I studied everyday, I didn’t leave any concept without understanding and I didn’t overdo things.

To future aspirants, my advice is to simply try your best and be honest with yourself. Believe that it can be done. Also, it’s fun to study computer science!

So i graduated from a decent government engineering college in electrical engineering. I always had an inclination towards computer science, and during my bachelors days, used to create websites for fun. I wanted to do m tech in computer science related field, and when i checked the subjects and their syllabus for GATE CSE, i was initially thrilled to be learning such interesting topics, but realized how tough it is going to be for me, someone with basically 0 knowledge about any subject except Data structures and Algorithms.

This is where Gate Overflow came to my rescue. Whenever i couldn’t understand the logic behind any Gate problem, i checked the multiple answers provided by various people, which really helped me develop a general thought process as to how a computer science graduate would tackle this particular problem. By january, i started getting good ranks in online tests, so my confidence grew a lot.

However, on the day of exam, i was in set 2, and i had never seen such a long paper in any of the online tests. I was stunned, and apart from aptitude section, i never really got going. Got 1089 rank in the final results( predictor of gate overflow was really accurate), so wont be getting any of the big IITs and the top 3 NITs most probably. Also, being from Electrical, i dont have much choices in CCMT either. But when i look back at the last year, i learnt more than i did during the entire 4 years of my graduation. Thank you Gate Overflow for teaching me how to tackle logical questions.
54
I would like to share my story with you all.

My rank in gate 2018 was 10374 with marks 27.67. I didn't sit in college placements because I wanted to give it one more shot. Didn't wanted to be a financial burden on my family so I decided to stay at home and study. I arranged some lectures from a friend and started watching them and making notes. But when I started giving mocks I was only scoring around 20-25% marks. I was depressed. I was able to solve previous year questions but wasn't able to score well in mocks. There was a time when I was regretting my decision of not joining a coaching institute.

But then GO came to the rescue. The motivational blogs here are simply awesome. What I have observed is that the main quality of this website is the discussion that follows the answer and a number of different approaches which really helped me understand the concept which the lectures were lacking. These discussions helped me a lot. It helped me change my approach to the question.

As Arjun Sir mentioned the main thing is to evaluate yourself at regular intervals.  I started to note all my mistakes from the mock tests in a seperate notebook and read that daily. That helped me to some extent. But still I was only able to score around 40% in tests. But I completely ignored those marks and focused on learning.

All I want to say to the future aspirants is that don't give too much thought to the mock test marks, find out where you are lacking, find out your mistakes and rectify them and don't ever loose hope while preparing. 2 days prior to the GATE 2019 I gave full length mock and scored 37 but I told myself that this is not me and I'm going to do much much better in the main exam.

I scored 64.67 marks with rank 479 and will join IIT Kanpur Mtech(TA).

Thank you GateOverflow !!!

First of all thank you everyone here in Gate Overflow Community for making this place a knowledge heaven.
I learned lot of new things , cleared lot of doubts regarding various topics here. Finally Got AIR 260

About My Journey
I am 2015 pass out from Guru Jambheshwar University,Haryana where i didn't learned anything at all.Quality of education is miserable there. But i managed to get a job in Service Based MNC through off campus placement and they didn't gave me joining during whole year. At that time i didn't know much about GATE  so my only thinking was to get into an MNC only.I wasted about an year just for a joining .I learned some Web Development and mostly wasted my time. But after an year i started to realize i can't live like this. Then one of my friend advised me to take GATE coaching and from there i started my preparation.Initially my mind was an empty box, every weekend i learned some new things it was just an amazing feeling for me.But unfortunately i was not able to cover 4 subjects for GATE-2017 which costed me a lot. I got AIR 1747 untill then i didn't knew what GO community is , then freind told me about GO and i found this community so helpful and has rich source of knowledge. In Feb 2017 that MNC sent me joining letter and i joined that company but after 2 months i left that company and decided to prepare full time for 2018.During whole year GO community is my only source for doubt clearing and learning new concepts and finally i was able to secure AIR 260 and also cleared ISRO exam with 24 rank but Got rejected in interview.

Thats all ,this is my story in short.Again I wish to thank all GO community and my family for such support because without them i couldn't have done this.

My English is also miserable like my Btech college :D

56
Marks : 66.33 AIR: 410 . It is my first attempt to GATE CS.Firstly I am not topper but I tried my best to qualify gate with good rank. I am currently pursuing B.Tech. from Tier-3 college. GATE Overflow Books really helped me to achieve that rank and also post GATE guidance provided by Arjun Suresh Sir really helped me a lot. I got IIT Guwahati in COAP 2nd round . At the end I would like to thank GATE OVERFLOW Community.

Hello, everyone,

This post is not about advising or telling preparation strategy or motivating future aspirants.

Here I am just going to share my short story behind attempting CS Gate’17 and eventually joining this Gateoverflow platform.

I am a B.Tech graduate from NIT-Silchar in Mechanical Engineering ($2011-2015$). While I was in $3$rd or $5$th semester of my engineering I was attracted towards programming and algorithms. One of my ECE friend advised me to practice algorithmic questions from CLRS. At that time I enjoyed those topics but I was having no idea what I am going to do with my newly found interest in programming. Anyway I continued studying only programming and some standard algorithms.

It was in the year of $2015$, when I was placed in some MNC in mechanical area in the month of January, and then I got a lot of free time to seriously study more CS topics, like basics of compilers, some number theory etc. This time I was deeply involved in CS and read about different areas in computer science through various online sources. So,towards the last days of college, I finally made my decision of attempting Gate computer science in upcoming year (btw was not sure when).

In $2015$, May - June after leaving college, I studied computer organization subject from Patterson and Hennessy along with one youtube video series. It was a nice self learning experience. In the month of July, I came to Delhi and Joined in that EPC company.

While I was doing my job I completely lost touch with CS subjects. Btw I bought all CS books with my first salary :). Somehow I managed to read few chapters from Galvin, Kenneth, some NPTEL lectures on OS+CO. And my study sources were mostly books. No prev. gate QS + no coaching at that time.

I knew that, with my current situation I was nowhere near the GATE preparation, with most of the subjects untouched. I was not aware of Gatesce resources at that time.I was getting a bit tensed in the month of December'15 and January’16 regarding my future career along with my current job in mechanical.

Some days passed, 2016 gate was over. That ECE friend did prepare at home and scored AIR-294. He told me to use Gatecse and Gateoverflow.

In the month of February, I decided to join made-easy so that I could speed up my preparation in CS and complete GATE syllabus in time. I started using gateoverflow in this month. Coaching started and it was becoming rigorous after one month. I found myself in a critical situation with job schedule and new topics every day.

Because of some reason I had to resign from the job in the month of April 2016. Now I got ample amount of time to study new subjects and solve problems related to gate for the first time in my life. The joy and happiness I felt was beyond expression.

From the month of July I started regularly visiting Gateoverflow website. I found it very useful. But here is the fact regarding Gate overflow with respect to me. I never took gate overflow as a path to success in Gate. Rather I consider it in two ways : One : A source of learning computer science, because every time whenever I searched few pages in here, I found a lot of new topics that I had never touched. As I explored more in gateoverflow, I learned a lot of new topics in short span of time. Second : A way to express myself. This second reason is the perfect reason why I am writing this post today. Every Time I wrote some answers I got deeply involved in it and described it in the most natural way a naive learner would think of solving a question. At that time my knowledge was limited in CS and picked only a few Questions to answer.

In this process, I met some nice people. Manish, Kapil, Srestha, Shiva, Shushant, ManojK, Akriti, Vijaycs, Anusha, Shobhit, Sachin, Uddipta and many more. With some of them I interacted a lot till the month of december. Thank you ALL.

For me Gateoverflow became my own little facebook :). Irrespective of Gate outcome, I learned a lot from all the active GO users with their optimal answers and useful comments.

The person I must need to thank: Arjun Sir. He inspired me a lot. And I learned a lot from his answers of previous gate questions. Despite of his schedule, he is also very active on this site.Thank you Sir.

I sincerely thank the people behind this site creation and Bikram Sir for providing us with quality GO test papers.

This year I attempted GATE in CS SET-$1$. I attempted more than $70$ but, we all know mistake happens and that brought down my actual score to $59 - 3 = 56$. Finally, I got a rank $383$.

I also thank all go contributors who helped me in one or other way during last year.

Finally, I would like to say that, everything starting from computer science subjects + coaching + gateoverflow + writing answers , all these started in $2016$ and  most importantly my passion in CS and all these prevailed throughout the entire year. Thank you all and hope that I will be able to contribute more in upcoming years.

AIR-71 THANKS GO
THANKS ARJUN SIR ,MANISH JOSHI SIR , SHIVAM CHAUHAN SIR , NIRMAL GAUR, TUSHAR BHATT
I AM FINAL YEAR ECE STUDENT FROM COT PANTNAGAR (STATE GOVT. CLG) WHO STARTED DOING PREPRATION FOR ECE GATE BUT IN ONE WEEK I UNDERSTOOD THAT THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY FOR ME TO PREPARE WHOLEHEARTEDLY FOR ELECTRONICS .THEN TWO OF MY FRIENDS TUSHAR BHATT AND NIRMAL GAUR RECOMMEND ME TO SWITCH BRANCH FROM ECE TO CS GATE. BEFORE THAT I WAS  CODING ON CODECHEF SO I KNOW ABOUT PROGRAMMING AND LITTLE IDEA ABOUT ALGORITHMS AND MATHEMATICS. AND FOR THE REST OF THEM I WAS FULLY UNAWARE BUT AFTER TALKING TO MY SENIORS MANISH JOSHI SIR(AIR-29, EE ), SHIVAM CHAUHAN SIR (AIR-14 , ECE ) I MADE MY MIND TO TAKE THAT RISK.

IN THIS JOURNEY GATEOVERFLOW IS REALLY AWESOME  AND THERE CAN NOT BE ANY BETTER ALTERNATIVE POSSIBLE. ALTHOUGH I DON'T TAKE PARTICIPATION IN ANY DISCUSSION BUT I SUGGEST TO GO THROUGH EACH OF THEM EVEN IF U KNOW THE ANSWER, MAY BE A BETTER WAY IS POSSIBLE.

COMPLETE YOUR COURSE WITH IN TIME SO THAT U HAVE ENOUGH TIME FOR TEST SERIES WHICH IS VERY MUCH NEEDED FOR TIME MANAGEMENT AND SWITCHING BETWEEN DIFFERENT TOPICS . DON'T FOLLOW THEIR SOLUTIONS BLINDLY FOR ANY CONCEPTS. KEEP IN MIND THAT 15-20 DAYS CAN BE WASTED IF U HAVE TO SIT FOR PLACEMENT IN COLLEGE  .

BELIEVE ME GATE IS A CONCEPTUAL EXAM EVEN IF U KNOW LESS U CAN SCORE GOOD BY ONE YEAR OF PREPRATION.ONE OF MY FRIEND OF ECE BACKGROUND IN CS SCORE 45 MARKS BY HARDLY TWO MONTHS OF PREPRATION (ANCHAL JAKHMOLA JAI HO.. ).AT LAST DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHERS. STAY FOCUSED.

This was my first attempt for gate and I scored gate score 737 and rank 498.. Though it is not that good score.. But without gate overflow I seriously dont think that it could have been possible.. A big thanks to all the gate overflow community members especially Shaik Masthan Sir, Arjun Suresh Sir, Srestha Mam..

I started preparing for gate since 3rd year but at that time I didnt know much about gateoverflow site… I started using it from may 2018 and that was the turning point of my preparation. I think the previous year questions are sufficient for practice and one should do them atleast twice.. I guess there is no need to say as we all know that the best resource for it is The Great GO Previous Year book!!!

Tests do help us to rank ourselves as we can test our concepts and work upon our real areas.. One serious advice that I would like to give to all future aspirants is that have confidence upon yourself and dont doubt your answers.. I somehow panicked in the last 2 minutes of the paper and unmarked 5 questions which were actually correct and ya this is the mistake I will always regret.. So be confident and practice as much as you can..

At this rank I knew that being from general category there is no chance for any old iit.. I got interview call from iitb ra but couldnt convert it .. But my studies and hardwork didnt go waste as I got admission in IIITH.. A very big thanks to Gate Overflow for it .. Thanks and all the very best to all f

I secured AIR 157 in Gate-2018.

Thanks to the entire GO community.

About myself: I did my B.tech from BIT Sindri ( Jharkhand state govt. college), passed out in 2017, IInd attempt ( got AIR 1457 in 2017), Self preparation ( Only took online tests ).

GATE-2018 JOURNEY: After getting the Gate-2017 result, I was unsure about whether I should join any college ( IIITB,D, NITs/ New IITs ) or I should repeat fulltime. I decided to give one more try and started my preparation in the month of July ( A bit late because I was busy enjoying the last few days of college life).

But, Before starting my actual preparation I took some time to analyze myself, to know where I lagged in previous attempt. I made a lists of all the subject, topic etc. in which I was weak and had scored less marks. ( I had left Digital logic, SQL, Turing machine and decidability topic in TOC, COA etc.), also made another list of the topics in which I was good.

Firstly, I completed all the topics in which I was fundamentally weak ( Watched NPTEL / MIT Ocw lect. videos, Read from standard Text books - As mentioned by Bikram sir ). I had made notes of almost all topics during my first attempt and these helped me a lot in completing the syllabus very fast because I didn't have to worry about making notes once again. I read the topics ( in which I was good ) from the notes,as I had given ample times to these topics during first attempt, I was able to recall almost all the concepts, Watched lectures/ read textbooks of only those subtopics which are either very important or confusing.

The big discovery was finding the GO website and GO pdf. It changed the whole game. As I was preparing by self there are some prev. year gate questions / sub topics which are tricky/confusing and I was having hard times tackling those ( since I have no mentor to guide, also no good book available in market which contains satisfactory answer/explanation to prev. year gate question ). I stumbled upon some post on FB where people have mentioned about GO pdf. This was the second best thing happened to me apart from getting a decent rank. I found awesome explanation of prev. year gate question which removed my doubts in almost all the topics. Awesome answers by awesome people in GO website motivated me and I started thinking logically after seeing a question. A big boost to my confidence about a certain topic.

I couldn't thank enough to the entire GO community, especially Arjun  sir, Bikram sir and all the awesome seniors.

Note: One should use GO pdfs as a guide/mentor and shouldn't use this in memorizing an answer but understanding concepts. Same can be applied to Online test.( you should give tests to examine your concept and preparation level and shouldn't learn any new concepts from these tests before verifying those concepts ) Good luck to all future GATE aspirants.

Wish me Luck in my future endeavors.
