I owe my success to GO. This is the best place for previous year question and explanation. Never thought I will get into top 100 . I can surely tell one thing, doing all the previous year questions honestly , will land you in top 100 ( I am definitely not suggesting to mug them). Unfortunately I have never contributed as such to GO,only countless upvotes (if that counts) to the beautiful answers by experts like Arjun Sir , Bikram Sir , Habib Sir , Praveen Sir (TOC answers) , Sachin Sir ,Praggy Sir (always seen him answering the most difficult math questions) and many more . I know only these words will do no justice , but thanks again.

I would like to thank all the members of GateOverflow for their vital role in my Gate preparation by extending their valuable support and help by solving my doubts, queries and encouraging fruitful discussion. I had relied highly on GateOverflow answers/materials for my Gate preparation. I would like to thank Arjun Sir for his great and selfish-less support to all the GATE aspirants. I have learned a lot from his answers and found them extremely useful. Even the day before exam there were few CO questions reading them and understanding his answer actually gave me more clarity. Not only his answers and explanation but also his tips and hints were very important. I still remember his words before exam when he said "From now on in 1 week reading new things or mugging up formulas wont help. Your score is almost fixed. If you are getting 60 try to make it to 70 and do not fall on 50. This can be done using a Good eye and peaceful mindset during examination". I had kept each and every word of yours in my mind. Although I could not execute them well in exam. I made two major mistakes and that cost me 4-8 marks ( Lack of peaceful mind and good eye ). I misread the KMAP question in hurry and two X's above and below mistakenly solved as 1's. And another example of number of control flows. Calculates 2*2*2*2... = 10 * 2. = 20 instead of 2^10. The point which I want to convey is how well you had guided people right from the explanation of answers, materials, TOC decidiability concepts, to the execution of paper in exam. Thank you Sir for your valuable time and great efforts in shaping our preparation. Next inline I would like to extremely thank Bikram Sir for his remarkable efforts of making GO mentor test series which are reliable and more closer to actual GATE then anyotther series. Also thank you Sir for solving so many of my queries on GO when GATE exam was approaching closer. And even after exam thank you Sir for providing platform and helping me in challenging Set-1 CN question. Those 2 marks were again very crucial. You are very approachable and thank you for your continuous guidance. There are so many other aspirants that I would want to thank including Habib, Debashish, Sushant, Srestha for their great efforts and helping me in solving my doubts. Thus just to wind up I may not have achieved this success without all your efforts, help and support.

Thank You All,

AIR-167

I went all out.

Year: 2017(Final year, Engg.) I didn't opt for placements as I wanted to do masters. I applied for MS in the US, got rejects from every university(top 30 - 50). I took the decision to drop an year and not to apply for MS in US as it doesn't make sense to spend lakhs of rupees for universities below 50 rank.

I went all out.

I prepared for gate 18 like hell. Sacrificed everything, movies, friends, even family. I messed up during the exam or maybe the surroundings messed me up. There was construction going on near the test center(just for three hours 9 am to 12 pm). I know I am "lucky". I believe I lost at least 400-450 rank because of the disturbances.

I Failed.

Gate 18: Score 659 Rank 960.

Is it possible to get into any good research institute in India with this score (and OBC-NC category)?

Is it the end for me and my dreams to build a strong research-oriented career in Computer Science(AI/ML specialization)?

Although AIR275 (GATE18 1st attempt) is not that good rank. But 5 months back when I joined GO even this was not possible...thanks a lot, everyone in GO ... I was not much of a contributor but more of a follower but now I think I should have participated in those healthy discussions. I devoted first 3 years of my college life to competitive coding, web and Android development but being from a teir3 college these things were not enough to fetch a job with a decent package... after discussions with friends and seniors, I decided to prepare for gate'18 half-heartedly (because I thought getting into IIT would be tough just like JEE advance but this is not the case with GATE if you are conceptually clear and have a good presence of mind you can crack gate with a good rank ) ....

although the list of people who guided me and helped me during GATE is large but would like to give special mention to Ashwin Kulkarni , My batchmates Atul Bhandari ,Amrendra, Satyam rohella,Shubham,Neeraj  discussions and following these guys helped and encouraged me a lot to clear my concepts.
THANK YOU so much, GO, family,

Hi, this is Shravani Joshi, AIR 70. GATE Overflow helped me understand all the tricky questions in all the subjects! I would like to thank Arjun sir and all the members on this community, for their active discussion and detailed explanations which helped all of us understand concepts better. Also GATE Overflow is by far the best platform where ALL the previous years' GATE questions with accurate answers are available, this helped me confirm my answers from time to time :D Also the tests made freely available as the exam neared helped me uncover my weak areas and taught time management as well. I strongly recommend GATE Overflow to all future GATE CS aspirants!

Hii,

A big thanks to GO team ,Arjun Suresh sir and Bikram ballav sir for their creation of wonderful platform which eventually lead me to reach rank of AIR - 164 in a very short time(4 months). As this GO site helped me to get wonderful answers for my doubts and I hope it will be gateway to the future gate aspirants.
Especially I want to thank Arjun Suresh sir for keeping the previous year papers live on the site and for valuable detailed explanation for each and every question and Bikram Ballav sir for his wonderful mock tests and awesome explanation to the answers .
I also would like to thank who have written awesome explanations like habib mohammad , praveen saini and to every contributor whose answers helped me to reach where I am now.

Thanks,
Rajesh - AIR - 164

Hiiii I got AIR 20 in GATE17(CSE)..  GATE OVERFLOW is the best resource available for the preparation of GATE CSE.. I solved GO book and found it very useful in understanding a lot of concepts.. In addition to previous year GATE and TIFR questions,a lot of quality tests are available which help in analysing the GATE preparation... I will like to suggest all future aspirants to solve GO book and all the tests available here  which are more than sufficient to get a decent rank in GATE... I am grateful to GO community to provide us such a wonderful platform... All the best for all the future aspirants!!!

I joined Gate overflow last yr this time and I am active here from September. What I found here best is its reliability of Answers. Most of the questions are discussed by all aspirants. So it is such a platform which is open for arguments and asking questions till you have any doubt. And that I found very impressive about it.And many will be agreed with me that those comments and discussions made many doubts clear.

For previous year questions also this is the best source to follow as there is no other book available in market(I checked all) which is as accurate as GO.So this is a great initiative by Arjun Sir and other experts to open up such a platform to build much more stronger concepts.

So my message to future aspirants is be active here, read as much questions as u can, post those questions you facing tricky, discuss and clear ur doubt.

Thank You...

AIR - 118

I cannot thank GO enough for the motivation and guidance I got from it. GO PDF and course text books are all you need for GATE CSE preparation. The accuracy and the clarity of concepts in GO PDF is no where to be found. Since few months, visiting GO and it's Facebook page has become kinda hobby for me. I don't know how can I repay the forum. Hats off to the owners and every active contributer here. I have committed many silly calculation mistakes in the exam and had to pay for them with around 12-13 marks. Else I could've made it to top 50. So, I feel that good grip on GO PDF can make you score above 75 if not 80 if you don't commit silly mistakes. I vouch for it. (By good grip, I don't mean to memorize the process of each model of sum. I mean to understand the intuition behind every solution with clarity.)

Million thanks once again.

Thanks Bikram sir for encouraging me to write this .

Yes , I needed encouragement . I never thought a person having Gate AIR 297 can motivate anyone .

First let me tell you about myself, I am one of those students, who doesn't have any long term goal in life . Seriously before my B.tech in CS I never thought about M.tech, and in IITs ,never ever .

So ,I heard about GATE in my second year .I was in college hostel ,where I saw one of my senior Suman Da preparing for GATE14  day and night .May be that created the first petal of my dream (may be small but for me it was a dream). So following his path me,with some of my friends joined a coaching institute in third year . But none of us was serious enough and the expected result in Gate16 AIR 3000+. Some of my friends had  great ranks in Gate16.

But one day something happened ,I don't know what exactly happened but I clearly remembered that made me feel ,I never had any goals ,Only one dream I have to protect it .I read most of the blogs of toppers and mainly the persons blog who dropped year after year to achieve their dreams and seriously if that is the main motivation then there is no replacement of GATE OVERFLOW. Mentors like Arjun sir, Bikram sir are awsome to motivate you .

I made my mind that I will sit for GATE 17 if not a good rank than GATE 18 .I talked with my parents, my professors and they also supported me.

Preparation

Here comes the main part preparation and I think mental preparation is the main thing, which I already had .But for study preparation I tried to follow the 10% rule.Make notes of everything you read, because that will be needed in last two months .So prepare everything before November 15, start  tough subjects in middle of preparation and yes of course download GATE OVERFLOW book of questions and solve it beside your textbook preparation . The best part about GO book is you can practice topic wise and please don't leave it for last because there are a lot of practice test you have to take in last two months .So never leave the GO book for last else you may not get enough time and you will be depressed .Start taking tests from october 1st week ,I started it november 1st and missed a lot of tests. So I advice you not to repeat same mistake I have made. For test there are a lot of free test and some paid tests chose wisely .

Last week

The most critical week of my life till now . Each day ends so quickly and the pressure was tremendous.I left the job of an MNC which was very hard for me to get .I did not know what to do if I fail .I read motivating posts from GO talked with my Maa ,Baba. They all tried their best to made me feel positive .

Last Night

I finished all of the tasks I have to do before 10PM, the exam was 2PM of next day .May be it sounds weird but that night I really didn't know I have slept or not but my eyes was closed . I wake up 5AM , prayed, re-read some important formulas (of the questions that gate repeats for its own bad habit )and left for Gitobitan at 11.

Exam hall

Prepare a proper plan for those 3 hours ,if you don't then it's up to your luck . For mine plan was, 180 to 160 aptitude,160 to 120- 1 mark questions ,120 to 50 - 2 marks . Then revise .Revise priority 2 marks first , then aptitude then 1 marks ,But still exam pressure made a shortage of 20 minutes for mine .I have done a whole lot of silly mistakes ,which may be corrected if I had those 20 minutes . So plan accordingly .

Above all thank you all GO team , and specially Bikram sir ,Arjun sir and Habib Dada ,others also (If I missed anyone sorry)

Though the journey seems small but it was great for me .

I don't know  how much I can help anyone .But if you have any issue I will try my best to help .

Thank you ,there is a long way to go before death.

I am Amit Sadashiv Patil, GATE 2017 AIR 31.

GO played a wonderful uplifter in my GATE preparation. All what I wanted to mention is already done by most of the toppers.

My feelings are not so different from them.

I thank all GO team and especially to Arjun sir for such a big support.

( Its a brief "Thank You note". I am looking forward to write a lengthy post in near future to help future aspirant ).

I am a final year student and I got AIR 94. Marks 67.33. (Quite disappointed because of the stupid blunders I committed worth 15 marks but it is what it is and I can't do anything but accept the fact. But hope it helps whosoever reads it to realize the importance of solving questions carefully.)

I want to thank Arjun sir, all the veterans of GO and the whole GO community who is always willing to help and guide one through one's way. The quality discussions with sources to reliable content helped to level up my thinking and shaped the perspective as how to approach a problem. Actually to a famous person who once said that "nothing worthwhile comes free", I want him to have a look at GO and get to appreciate the values of this community. I am really thankful to GO.

Quick tips for future gate aspirants(which helped me and my friends who are under 100):

// These are just my views and may/may not work. So take it with a pinch of salt.

1) Standard books( I did not buy and but had pdfs of all and I used to highlight the content I would want to reread)+ Reliable material from universities(available online).

2) GO pdf I started solving it from mid-december. The discussions about standard questions help a lot.

3) I will encourage you to Master Maths and Programming at first and do in-depth study for the same. These will be helpful in other subjects as well. More specifically, combinatorics, probabilty and discrete Maths( Logic and tree, graphs are super important) in maths part and C, SQL, Data structure, Algorithms in programming. You should at least study this part very thoroughly and in first place.

4) If possible Do competitive programming, it will help you in ways you can't imagine. BONUS: Colleagues who used to do programming got better rank ( Just an observation, doesn't necessarily mean its true).

I am very grateful to whole GO community and whosoever has ever contributed even in a very small proportion.

Thanks a Trillion.

Wish you a lot of success.

Although my rank is not so fancy but still GATEOverflow helped me a lot in getting good marks in GATE.It is best source  for cracking GATE with good marks. This is a place where you get a lot of questions in addition to previous year questions posted by students from all over the country. You can see the answers are well elaborated, nicely explained and by this way you will also come to know what is the quality of students sitting with you on the exam day.Experts like Arjun Suresh, Praveen Saini and others are always present to solve any doubts an aspirant can get. GATEOverflow book of previous year questions, along with answers is the best study material anyone will need. GATEOverflow answer key this time was 99%+ correct. Overall I can say that if you are preparing for Gate computer Science , using GATEOverflow is a MUST.
Gatecse is best source of study material. I found best collection of books, links to various toppers blog and last years analysis.Gatecse is resource which any serious aspirant should know about. One should avoid studying local books as they are not even subset of standard books. One must always study from standard books. Moreover, I would suggest to prepare Mathematics well even though GATE CS has other stuffs, as Mathematics is the subject which if you study well then you have an edge over others who study other subjects and give lesser importance to Maths and it also carries a major portion of marks.Maths is the subject which you not only need for GATE but you will need it for the whole life in whatever you do.
I want to thank founder of this website Arjun Suresh, for helping me and all the aspirants of GATE who look for coaching materials or other materials available in market as this is the only site which you one must follow whole heartedly  for succeeding in GATE. Keep doing good work and wishing all future aspirants good luck :)

I would like to share my experience from the point of view of student who had coaching. I joined Made Easy while I was in my final year. Some teachers were quite awesome but others were just fine. The most important advantage of joining coaching classes is that they make you regular in your studies other than that you have to do all the things by yourself. I started following Gateoverflow when there were 8-9 months left for the exam.

According to me, to get a good rank in GATE you'll need the following 3 resources:
1) http://gateoverflow.in/ : To get the clear and accurate explanations of all the previous year questions and other NON-GATE questions. Gateoverflow book contains all the questions compiled into pdf format and I highly recommend you to solve it THOROUGHLY!!!

2) http://www.gatecse.in/ : To guide you about how to do your preparation, books to study, lectures to watch, etc.

3) https://www.facebook.com/groups/gateoverflow/: This group is going to play one the major roles in your pre-GATE as well as post-GATE preparation. Experts like Arjun Suresh, Praveen Saini, etc as well as other group members are going to help in your technical as well non-technical queries.

You shouldn't get affected by the questions that you are able to solve easily but the ones that you're not able to answer should bother you. Solve to learn new concepts and not to increase your count. According to me, the quality of your preparation is going to give you a good rank rather than the quantity. If you find any difficulty during your preparation you can always contact me ([email protected])

Greetings!!! I got AIR-172 along with final year. Yes i know its not under 100 , but that's a different story . But a big part of this was all possible because of Gateoverflow. As everyone know that it provides a great platform for all the queries, but apart from that it helped me to do the things in the right way. There are some amazing people in this community that will affect you in positive way and will help to achieve your dream. Where education is becoming a means of business and where cracking exams is more important than learning , Gateoverflow is providing far more better resources and guidance than anyone and i learned a lot in this journey. For GATE preparation you should trust only 3 things:- yourself , Reference books and gateoverflow .

Thanks to Arjun Sir and all the contributors of  Gateoverflow .

www.gatecse.in and www.gateoverflow.in are two websites that provide extensive information for most of the GATE CSE queries - Almost complete coverage all the required information one needs to know about GATE, right from preparations to the admissions.
While getting information of what GATE is all about, www.gatecse.in played an important role in getting me acquainted with the know-hows of preparation, the standard books and lectures available, and also a lot of statistics from previous year(GATE 2014,2015) results.
When my preparation was at the crucial stage in the last two months, www.gateoverflow.in played the role of helping me get over some of my misconceptions, with the detailed answers on the previous years questions by experts like Arjun Sir, Praveen Sir and other senior members and fellow aspirants. Also, the discussions that happened on Moodle were very good. Also, the GateOverflow book was one of the best things, having the questions in topic wise manner surely helps, rather than solving through randomly.
One can always ask their doubts/questions here and usually its answered in a detailed manner by other users.
In all, i feel the extra 10 marks i got, which is the difference between getting a rank of 300 and a rank of 30, was due to use of the Gate Overflow platform in the last two months. I would recommend future aspirants to make full use of this platform available.

I have found gateoverflow.com great help. Specially previous year paper that were put by site for practice purpose were great help in last time of preparation and they also boost my confidence. And all of the answers on previous year are well debated and beautifully explained. Thanks to Arjun Suresh Sir who made it possible.

PS i got AIR 174 in 2017

I started preparing for GATE after completing my B.E in Electronics. The major reason for most of us to appear in CSE is because of the subject Data Structure and Algorithms. I was introduced to DS & A in my final semester and from then and there everything happened!

Thank you Gate Overflow community for your superb answers which fetched me an AIR of 352.

I started following gateoverflow.in since january this year , though I had done a lot of preparation before that , but there were many doubts in my mind about certain problems , so starting using this website and got lot of my doubts cleared with very good inputs from others , I think gateoverflow.in helped me gain extra few marks made a difference from  300+ rank to 159 my current rank in gate 2016 , so I would like to thank all the users of this site and best of luck for those who will be giving GATE 2017.

Thanks ,
