If you are looking for Masters in research then this is not a good place for you.but if your main concern is Placement then this is the place for you.

M.Tech (2018-2020)  students placed in companies are as-

Qualcomm, Sandisk, Samsung R&D Noida, Royal Bank of Scotland, IBM, Mobikwik, Policy bazaar, Dunnhumby, Schlumberger, Nagarro, Amdocs, Tejas networks, Axteria , Shipsy, Intello labs,  Yodlee envestnet, Smart energy water, American Express, etc.

Academics wise, this is not that much good but when it comes to coding culture it is above average and campus life is just awesome simply, after every 5-10 days DJ party is here. Fests like Yuvaan & Engifest is very popular and you will get too much free time for any exam or placement preparation.

This year highest placement is 29 lakh in Qualcomm for 3 students following by 20 lakh in Sandisk for 2 students  and so on… Still, placement is in process for the current batch (more than 80% are placed with the average package of above 14).

Each year more than 300 companies visit here for B.tech in which 150+ are open for Mtech (CSE+SWE+ISY). All three specialization get equal opportunity. (if you are good in coding with good communication skill then you have many opportunities otherwise you can try for the different profile like data scientist, analyst etc ) which also offer above 10 LPA.

M.tech is allowed in companies like Goldman sachs, Uber, Microsoft, flipkart, Amazon and many more but they take very hard coding test so it is very hard to crack due to high competition.

For coding practice we usually follow GFG, hackerrank, codechef, etc.

For admission DTU consider only GATE score (total of 20+20+20 seats are in each specialization(CSE+SWE+ISY)):-

for General Category in round 1 under 1000 for CSE and till 1700-1800 is safe for SWE with 2000 for ISY.  Sometimes magic happens in spot round like 4000-5000 gate ranks can also get a seat( which usually does not happen and goes till 3000).

NOTE :- Computer science(CSE) and software engineering(SWE) comes under Computer Science department and (ISY) in Information technology Department.

All get equal opportunity in placement but usually, students take CSE then SWE then ISY.

If your goal is to become teacher or to get PSU then again you can think of DTU as colleges like KIET, DIT University and Bharat Electronics Limited(BEL)  and many more come each year.

For any further query consult any placed M.tech final year student they will definitely guide you.

$\text{For those sending representatives to IITG}$

I think you would have got mail from IITG regarding what all things to send with the representatives.

  1. Self-attested photocopies of documents are enough.
  2. Photos need to be there as mandated by IITG.

Then, in case of tie break for GATE score they will look at B.Tech. Percentage.

If you have only CGPA, then they will multiply it by $10$ to get percentage. So, do not try to get a percentage equivalent as this will mostly lower your B.Tech. percentage which can be significant in case of a tie.

$\text{Request to IITG current/future students}$

Usually IIT people have good common sense and hardly cause any inconvenience to students which happens in normal colleges. But the IITG counseling for CSE department is a real blackmark here. I dont think there can be any valid reasoning for the same as mostly the parents and representatives will be attending the counseling as most students will be having interviews/exams else where. Even otherwise there is nothing good happening there-- do you really expect any under graduate to get attracted to the Research happening in IITG in $1-2$ hours? Guwahati is a nice place and IITG has a nice campus -- but please do understand that many people cannot afford the travel there especially at short notice. Also, more than $60\%$ of those invited to IITG won't be offerred any seat even. If you really want to show the campus -- please do take a video shoot and upload in Youtube.

I request all the current IITG students and future students who are now going for counseling to ensure that this is the last time this event happens -- because it is completely useless and more over causing a lot of hardships to many. If you do not care for people, there is absolutely nothing useful in any research.

$\text{Representative for Counseling}$

Is anyone looking for a representative for IITG Counseling and between ranks $215$ and $450$ in general or $500-1200$ in OBC?

$\text{IITG Experience}$

Experience shared by Samujjal Das:

This post is specifically targetted to rank holders between $220$ to $350.$ This year and last year, I have seen people asking about IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati. But, I have never seen them asking about the other $5$ old IITs. I don't know the reason of this confusion. I have not seen JEE rankers with so much confusion as the GATE rankers. Since I am about to end my Masters within the next $7$ days from IIT Guwahati, this post is only about IIT Guwahati. I hope to cover all the key areas honestly.

  • 1. RESEARCH AREAS - Till the last year, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems and Formal Verification were the research areas where professors were inclined to. Recently, IITG has seen a shift into the areas of Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Data Mining. This may be a reason for the need to launch a new "M.Tech in Data Science" discipline.
  • 2. GEOGRAPHY - IITG is situated by the banks of river Brahmaputra. The city is on one side of the river and the campus is on the other side. The campus is well connected to the city. You can go to the city either by Ferry, or you can avail the hourly free college bus service.
  • 3. CLIMATE - The region where IITG thrives in enjoys a good climate throughout the year. Since it is away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will notice a stark change in climate when you cross the river and go to the city. Winter stays here for long (November to March). May - September are the summer months. During these months, you may face some problems in your hostels, due to humidity.
  • 3. EXTERNAL DISTURBANCES - Guwahati in itself is a peaceful city. There may be some news of disturbances in Assam, but those are near the borders. "Assam is unsafe" - this quote has now become a part of chain reaction, which started years ago, and people are still believing in it. The campus is very much peaceful and very safe.
  • 4. CAMPUS - The campus is the $3^{rd}$ largest campus in terms of area after IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur. Also, it's one of the most beautiful and cleanest campuses in the country. The campus has two small hills and two lakes (one of the lakes has a small island). You simply won't get enough of the campus even after spending 2 years here.
  • 5. HOSTEL - There are $10$ boys hostel, $2$ girls hostel and $1$ married scholar hostel. All the boys hostel are single-seater hostels. Cleaners do their jobs every day in an effort to keep the hostels clean. Every hostel has $1 (\text{or}\: 2)$ juice center(s), $1 (\text{or}\: 2)$ canteen(s), $1$ reading room, $1$ sports room, $1$ TV room, $1$ stationery shop, $2$ pantries (if the boarders decide to cook their own food) and $1$ mess.
  • 6. MESS FOOD - The hostel messes serve both North Indian and South Indian foods. The basic mess menu consists of veg items. There are live counters where you can get side items like chicken, fish, eggs, paneer, curd, fried rice. You have the option for mess subscription i.e. if you don't like the food in your mess, you have the option to subscribe to the mess of some other hostel with no extra charge. Zomato is active in the campus, if you want to order food from outside restaurants.
  • 7. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES - Few companies like IBM, Microsoft, CISCO etc conduct tests to hire masters students as interns from the campus. They also offer PPO to the good performers during the internship. $2$ of our batchmates got PPO after internship.
  • 8. PLACEMENTS - Placements in IITG are exactly how placements in old IITs should be. Talking about the placements of $2019$ batch, $220$ companies registered for placements across all departments. Out of these, $80$ companies allowed B.Tech CS people to sit and out of these $80$, around $60$ companies allowed M.Tech CS people to sit. In our batch, the strength was $41.$ Out of these, $3$ people were ineligible to sit for placements (low CPI), $1$ didn't sit because she had to do Ph.D. Rest all $37$, who appeared for placements got placed within the first $5$ days of the placement season. [Median CTC $: 22.5$ LPA, Average CTC $: 23.3$ LPA]

I hope that I have been able to address some of your doubts about IITG. It will be nice if someone from IITR can do it for them.

$\text{IITG Counseling on May 15.}$

Based on previous year stats general candidate lower than $450$ rank and OBC lower than $1200$ surely can skip going for it because there is almost no chance of getting admit.
Also, general with a rank better than $210$ and OBC within $500$ also can skip because they will be getting direct admit in IITM/Kgp
Edit:
Being safe : Ranks $210-450$ should attend counseling in general category.
If you're taking risk: Ranks $225-340$ must attend counseling in general category.

Hello Everyone
This post is regarding the admission procedure in IIITD.
So there are two ways to get admission in IIITD(Both exclusive, you cannot through both choices)
1)Gate entry
2)Non Gate entry

//if you are a gate entry then u will get stipend else u will not get any stipend(only difference b/w both  the entries)

Gate Entry:-
Screening 1:-

Requirement :- Rank <= 3000 and college percentage>= 75% (As per my knowledge, dont know the exact criteria)
(if you have good rank and low percentage and vice versa, still u can get the call)

Actually they calculate a score in which they take average of the gate score and college percentage of the candidate and if the candidate’s average crosses the cutoff then the candidate is called for further procedure.

formula=(0.5 * gate score + 0.5* college%)
(last time the cutoff was 71 point something)

Screening 2:-
On 5 may,we were called for interview.Around 350 students were called and there were only 100 seats.

Last time there was no coding round , Only interview was there.

Non Gate Entry:-
Screening 1:-

You need not to get a good rank to get admission through this entry.Only requirement is that u should have a good college percentage.
College percentage must be above 75% (As per my knowledge, last time cut off was 75%).

Screening 2:-
For non gate entry, there were 2 tests on 5 may - first written test and then interview(only those candidates were interviewed who cleared the written test)
Last time around 150-180 students were called, and there were only 35 seats for non gate.

Interview Experience:-
So on 5 may we were called for interview, after spoiling almost every exam I was quite nervous...haha.
There were around 13-14 panels,Each panel had 1 professor and 2 PhD students.
Type of questions varies from panel to panel. Also it depends upon the field of the professor who is taking the interview,(Literally this really matters, I mean if your favourite subjects are same as the professor's field, then you will really  face some good questions, because they will make u stuck at the basic concepts but its not even that hard to crack it).

So my interviewed started from some basic questions like tell me your favourite subjects,to which i replied C,DS,Algo,OS
then the first question was which algorithm would you choose to sort the playing cards and why?
Then they asked about semaphores, mutual exclusion and many more...(ps:- I seriously dont remember any question now)
But i was able to answer all of them correctly.
At the end they asked about my project, but since i was not so confident about my project,So i directly said that i am not too confident in my project as i am in btech 4th year and working on it(Since i wanted to play safe, because i knew  that if they asked about my project ,i will lose the opportunity to get admission)
The professor was okay with it,and he just asked about my project topic only and then i came out of the room.

After  3-4 days, results were announced and i was selected.

About non gate entry exam:-
First u need to solve a written test, difficulty level is moderate, it consists of both aptitude and gate subject questions.
Once u clear it, u have to pass the interview and the interview procedure is same as that of gate entry.
Non gate results were also announced after 3-4 days.

ps:-(i mentioned everything as per my knowledge, dont know the exact criteria)
How i prepared for  interview:-
I just revised my notes thats it.

One simple note:-
I prepared whole heartedly for gate, studied as much as i could, but could not get a good rank in gate.
After that i spoiled other exams too like IIITH and many more.
On the interview day,I was really depressed and nervous and at the time of my interview , i got so nervous that the professor offered me water bottle and said first drink water and then answer...hahahahah.
See, we all work hard , we all want to go to IIT Bombay, but sometimes we do not perform well by any reason but u know what "mehnat kabhi bekar ni jaati", If u could not perform well in one exam, u will perform well in another and if u spoiled that too, then u will perform well in the next one.

1 thing that i will suggest to everyone that "Dont Give Up till the end, keep fighting", sometimes student dont get admission not because they didnt have a good rank but just because they gave up too early and they start thinking of dropping 1 year.
I would suggest dont even think of dropping until all the doors are closed.

I hope this post will help others.
Sorry for all the grammatical mistakes.
this is my first post btw...
and trust me after getting admission in a good college u will realize that "Gate preparation was halwa, khoon to ye log choos rahe h"...hahah (Atleast in IIITD u will definitely realize it).
bcoz IIITD is a world full of Deadlines...hahaha.

$\text{AI Interview}$

Experience shared by Jayant Priyadarhi:

  • Interviewer - What is your favorite subject?
  • Me - Linear Algebra and probability
  • 1. Go to the board and Draw 2 independent vectors in the plane of the board.
  • Me - drawn
  • 2. After I drew. Why do you think these 2 are independent?
  • Me - Because had they been dependent, they would have been on the same line.
  • 3. Prove the statement you just made
  • Me - Proved.
  • 4. They dictated 2 A,B matrices where few rows were interchanged . Give a matrix X such that multiplying it to one gives another. Also, write the equation.
  • 5. What are eigen vectors and what is their geometric significance?
  • Me - told
  • 6. How will you derive the characteristic equation explain with reference to null space of the matrix?
  • Me - told.
  • 7. If the matrix is symmetric , what can u say about its eigen vectors?
  • Me - told only one fact and they were expecting 2. Gave some more info but couldn't reach the second fact. By this time I wanted the inflow of linear algebra questions to end, and it ended thankfully and the profs looked satisfied.
  • After this 2-3 minutes of easy questions from dynamic programming like give an example of repeating sub problems and all.. And finally I was told to write a function which returns the next biggest number in an array given an element of the same array. It was simple and I wrote in O(n) .. they asked me about complexity and I told. Then I was asked to leave.
  • Hope this helps..
  • thank u all of u ..
