Then it will be false ,right? 0 votes 0 votes joshi_nitish commented Jul 26, 2017 i edited by joshi_nitish Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share Only option 3 is correct, option 4 is not correct.. Option 4 is saying "some parrots are not crows", it is equivalent to "some parrots might be crows".. Now, statement "some parrots might be crows" is not valid, because in qsn it is given "no parrot is crow", then how could statement "some parrots might be crows" valid... 0 votes 0 votes rahul sharma 5 commented Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share Option 4 is not saying "some parrots might be crows".Some A are not B does not mean some A might be B. There can be case if my A intersection B is phi. I can then say all A are not B or some A are not B. Some parrots are not crows means "there exists at least one parrot which is not crow" ,which in fact is true because no parrot is crow. For all true = > There exists also true. 1 votes 1 votes Manu Thakur commented Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share 3rd can be false if crows set is empty while 4th statement is true, if one statement is true for ALL then it is true for There Exists something. 0 votes 0 votes rahul sharma 5 commented Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share Do we consider edge cases in these types of cases, like where set can be empty.? 0 votes 0 votes Manu Thakur commented Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share I changed my mind so i changed my answer too! statement 4 should be correct one 0 votes 0 votes joshi_nitish commented Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share it is true that "some parrots are not crows" is equivalent to "some parrots might be crows", because if universe contain crows and it is given that some parrots are not crows than there are chances that remaining parrots may be crows, notice that i am using a word 'might'... but i was wrong that statement 4 is not valid, it will be valid... 0 votes 0 votes joshi_nitish commented Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share @manu00x if there is nothing in universe with name crow(crow set is empty), then what is a problem in saying 'bats are crow' , since there are no creature named as crow, we can rename bats as crow... moreover empty set is a subset of every set, in this case empty crow set will be always inside bats set... 0 votes 0 votes srestha commented Jul 26, 2017 reply Follow Share option 3 should be correct,rt? 0 votes 0 votes rahul sharma 5 commented Jul 29, 2017 reply Follow Share "Some bats are not crows." is this valid inference from above? –1 votes –1 votes srestha commented Jul 29, 2017 reply Follow Share why not @ rahul sharma 5 0 votes 0 votes rahul sharma 5 commented Jul 29, 2017 reply Follow Share Inference:- "Some bats are not crows." If bats=crow ,it will fail then. Question says All crows are bats. But we dont know whether crows are proper subset of bats.If crows and bats are equal then it will not hold. I am not sure though. 0 votes 0 votes Please log in or register to add a comment.
