Computer Networks computer-networks + – LavTheRawkstar 538 views answer comment Share Follow Print See 1 comment 1 1 comment reply Akriti sood commented Apr 6, 2017 reply Follow flag repeater is a layer 1 device,that is it operates on only physical layer.it is used to join 2 LAN segments.it cant see the MAC address of the destination.so it floods the message to other network instead of fltering. bridge is a layer 2 device,that is it works on data link layer.hence ,it is able to see the MAC address of the packet to be tranferred and can thus take decision accordingly to which node it has to be sent instead of flooding the packet to entire network. and hence bridges are more powerful than repeaters. both repeater and bridge are used to connect LANs of same type.. 2 2 replyShare Please log in or register to add a comment.
