Subnetting

Question

 IP address of computer is 196.121.87.160. Subnet mask is 255.255.255.224. What will be the IP address of the 3^rd host of 5^th subnet (fourth octet) ?

224 is 11100000 so 5 (right most) bits are used for Host and 3 bits are use for Subnet. 5th Subnet mean subnet bits are set to 101 and 3rd host means host bits are set to 00011.The fourth octet of required IP address will be 10100011 (or 163).So the required IP address is 196.121.87.163.

sm is 255.255.255.224 and it is class c ip address then  24 bit  is used for netwok ,3 bit subnet and 5 bit is host portion. 3rd host is 00011 and fifth subnet is 101 . then we get 196.121.87.163
