I suppose that you have assumed it to be a down counter. As nothing is mentioned about what type of counter it is-Up/Down?

Going by Up counter, the answer will be 1100.

0110 - 1/11/21/31st clock cycle

0111- 2/12/22/32nd clock cycle

1000- 3/13/23/33rd clock cycle

1001- 4/14/24/34th clock cycle

1010- 5/15/25/35th clock cycle

1011- 6/16/26/36th clock cycle

1100- 7/17/27/37th clock cycle

1101- 8/18/28/38th clock cycle

1110- 9/19/29/39th clock cycle

1111- 10/20/30/40th clock cycle

After 16 pulses counter will be in initial state....so after 32 clock pulses it will be in initial state..0110

After 33 clock pulse 0101

After 34 clock pulse 0100

After 35 clock pulse 0011

After 36 clock pulse 0010

After 37 clock pulse 0001

 

 

 

37 mod 16= 5 initially it is in state 6

After 5 clock pulses 6-5=1 clock pulse
