Question

For a class C network if IP address of a computer is 200.99.39.112 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.224 the decimal value of last octet of last host of sixth subnet is?

 

Doubt- If we subtract 2 from number of subnet then ans would be 11011110 and if we don't then ans would be 10111110. So I am confuse whether we should subtract it or not. As per my knowledge subtraction was old RFC convention but in test series they still do it. So please guide me what we have to do in exam.

Though I am not aware of RFC convention, but as far as I know, we subtract 2 from the no. Of possible host IDs to get the actual no. Of host IDs that can be assigned to a host. Do we subtract 2 from subnet IDs?

Here 6th subnet means 000,001,010,011,100, "101" --> this one.
