when any theory question is asked how to attempt them in Gate. Is it required to read the standard text books for these things to answer?

Yes, it is necessary to read the standard text books.

You cannot just rely upon your coaching notes completely.

Dont read the entire thing from text book but atleast read those topics which you feel you are weak in and which involves more theory.
