But When (4)(3)(8)(5)(7)(2) are combined, won't it be combined like this:

(4) and (3) are combined as (3,4)

(8) and (5) are combined as (5,8)

(7) and (2) are combined as (2,7)

Next (3,4) and (5,8) are combined as (3,4,5,8)

(2,7) stays as it is

Next (3,4,5,8) and (2,7) are combined finally to give (2,3,4,5,7,8)

Isn't this the way they are combined?

I did the division by considering lower index as 0.

If you take it as 1 then it would be like :

4 3 8 5 7 2

(4 3 8) (5 7 2)

( (4 3) (8) )      ( (5 7) (2) )

(   ( (4) (3) )   (8) )      (   ( (5) (7) )    (2) )

( ( 3 4 ) (8) )      ( (5 7 ) (2) )

(3 4 8) (2 5 7)

(2 3 4 5 7 8)
