Consider an $ARQ$ algorithm running over a $40$-km point-to-point fiber link.

(a) Compute the one-way propagation delay for this link, assuming that the speed of light is $2 \times 108$ m/s in the fiber.

ARQ algorithm running over a 40-km point-to-point fiber link.
(a) Compute the one-way propagation delay for this link, assuming that the speed of light is  2×108 m/s in the fiber.

Solution . Propagation time= time to reach first bit from sender side to reciever side.

                    Tpt  =  distance / lite of speed =  40 km / 2×108 m/s

                          = 40 × 10/ 2 × 10= 200 micro second

Propagation delay = 40 × 10^3 m/(2 × 10^8m/sec)
                  = 200µs.
