M.Tech:

Admissions are made on All India basis for all the programs, with reservations as per Government of India norms. The selection criterion for admission into all the M.Tech. programs is based on valid GATE score. Candidates seeking admission into M.Tech. in Engineering should have passed BE/B.Tech. or equivalent degree in the subject concerned from a recognized University/Institute with First Class not less than 60% marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.5/10. In case of SC/ST candidates 55% marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 is the eligibility requirement. Eligibility and other criteria for admissions to M. Tech. courses of the Institute will be reviewed and decided by the Senate from time to time.

An M. Tech. program is of 4-semester duration, out of which 2 semester course work followed by two semester dissertation work.Each M. Tech degree program will typically consist of the following components.

In the full-time Ph.D. degree program:

Full-time student on Institute fellowship.

Full-time project fellows/ JRF/ SRF appointed in R&D projects being carried out at NITW.

Full-time Sponsored student from Industry/ R&D organizations.

Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) fellowship awardees (Foreign students).

Full-time External (CSIR/ JRF/ SRF Fellows) working in National Research Laboratories/ R&D Organization having necessary facilities.

Full-time Self-financing Programme (Sponsored by Industry).

Full-time Self-finance (Rule of reservation is not applicable. Master’s degree is compulsory whereas GATE/ UGC/ CSIR/ INSPIRE/ NET/ CAT is not mandatory).

In the Part-time degree program:

Permanent faculty and other permanent staff of NIT, Warangal.

Permanent faculty of Private Academic Institutions with NIRF ranking below 200 at least once in last five years.

Permanent faculty from Educational Institutions fully funded by Government or Maintained by Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Mode.

Permanent Employees from Private Industries with R&D facilities having three years of experience in an industry of five years standing with membership in CII/ ASSOCHEM
or any other similar membership.

Permanent employees working in Government R&D laboratories/ Government Organizations/ Government Industry/ PSUs/ State Undertakings.

Educational Qualification:

Master’s/ M.S. (by Research) degree in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate branch of  study. All candidates must have qualified in GATE (not a compulsion for part-time scholars).  OR Bachelor’s in Engineering/ Technology with valid GATE score and at least CGPA of 8.0 or 75% of marks under GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL category and at least CGPA of 7.5 or 70% for candidates under SC/ST/PwD category.

The National Institute of Technology, Surathkal

M.Tech:

CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M/Arch/M/Plan admisisons) is a common platform for candidates to apply for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan./M.Des. programmes, based on their GATE score. NITK Surathkal admits students through CCMT for all the M.Tech programmes. 

Eligibility:

Admission to a M.Tech. Programme is open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate. However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 OR 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

For Sponsored Category:

A limited number of seats are available to sponsored student from Industry or other Organizations including Educational Institutions under sponsored category for Full time M.Tech programmes. These students shall be sponsored and financed by the sponsoring organization. The candidate should produce a sponsorship-cum-clearance certificate in the given format of the Institute. The candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of Full-time work experience in the sponsoring organization at the time of application, after completing the qualifying degree.

M.Tech (Research) program:

M.Tech (Research) programmes are offered in all the specializations available under M. Tech.

Eligibility:

Admission to a M.Tech (Research) Programme shall be open to Indian nationals who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a CGPA of at least 6.5, OR not
less than 60% marks in the aggregate. However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 OR 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates. Valid GATE score is essential for scholarship seats.

Categories of Admission:

a. Full time:

Full time candidates with GATE eligibility, will receive GATE scholarship for the duration of four semesters, which is subjected to GATE scholarship rules of MHRD.

b. Full time - sponsored:

Full time - sponsored candidates shall be sponsored and financed by the sponsoring organization. They are not entitled for Institute scholarship. The candidate must have minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience in the sponsoring organization, after completing the qualifying examination. 

c. External Registrants - Sponsored:

Same as full-time sponsored candidates but External Registrants are expected to carry-out their research work in their parent organization after fulfilling certain prerequisites in the Institute. External registrants may have an additional Research Guide from the sponsoring organization. In case of external registrants,
residential requirement may be waived and they may be permitted to complete their course work by opting for certified courses.

d. Internal Registrants - sponsored institute or project staff of NITK

An internal student of type shall produce a sponsorship-cum-clearance certificate from the Director, NITK.

Ph.D:

Eligibility:

Qualifying degree in relevant field with a CGPA of at least 6.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 60% marks in the aggregate. However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.5 or 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates. 

Categories of admission:

Full-time students:

For the candidates who have valid GATE (or equivalent) score. 

Full-time sponsored students:

Employed professionals having experience and proven competence aspiring for Ph.D Programme will be considered under External Registration and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own location of work.

Full-time / External Registrants:

Candidates under this category, shall be sponsored and financed by the sponsoring organization. They are not entitled for Institute scholarship. The candidate should produce a sponsorship-cum-clearance certificate. The candidate must have minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience in the sponsoring organization, after completing the qualifying examination.

Internal Registrants:

For these applicants are sponsored institute will be NIT-K or the applicants would be project staff of NITK.

Full-time – Non-sponsored / Non-scholarship students:

This category applicants neither get the scholarship from NIT-K (or any other government body) nor they are sponsored by any organization.

The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Tiruchirappalli or NIT Trichy) is a national research deemed university near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. The college was granted deemed university status in 2003 with the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Government of India and renamed the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli.

CCMT 2024:

This centralized system provides a common and convenient platform for online Counselling wherein the candidates can fill-in a single online application form from their home and apply to all programmes in all the participating institutions to which they are eligible. The CCMT was initiated in the year 2012 for centralized admission to PG programmes and since then has undergone several changes to make it more student-friendly and include newer institutions under its umbrella.

Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA):

Admission to Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin/ Non-Resident Indians / Overseas Citizen of India to postgraduate programmes in premier Technical Institutions is being offered under DASA scheme of Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, since the academic session 2001-02.

Those seeking admission to postgraduate programmes under the DASA scheme have to apply online, fill out an online  application form and make the fee payment through SWIFT transfer/ E-payment on or before the deadline mentioned in the
schedule on the DASA website. Further online applications and documents should be uploaded to the DASA website through the portal only.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have passed the qualifying examination i.e. Four/ Five year undergraduate programme in Engineering/ Technology or equivalent in relevant discipline for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan./ M.Des./ MURP and an appropriate UG degree for MBA programme from any stream of education recognized as equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities (www.aiuweb.org)/ UGC (www.ugc.ac.in)/ AICTE (www.aicte-india.org)/ other statutory bodies as applicable. 

Must have secured a minimum of at least 60% aggregate marks or 6.00 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent in the qualifying examination. In case, CGPA on a different scale is awarded OR if only grades are awarded, percentage/CGPA equivalence provided by the principal examination authorities will only be considered.

Must have a valid minimum total of 300 GRE Revised General Test Score (Verbal+ Quantitative for eligibility for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan./ M.Des.

Sponsored Category M.Tech. / M.Arch. Admission:

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates should have passed the qualifying degree from a recognized University/Institute and secured at least 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 60% for GEN / EWS / OBC-NCL, whereas 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 55% in case of SC /ST / PwD candidates. Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice versa given by individual Institute/university will not be considered / allowed.

Work Experience:

Sponsored candidates should have a minimum experience of two years in the relevant field from the same organization and must be sponsored by their employers.

Ph.D:

The categories of PhD admissions are

Full-Time:

Half-time Research Assistantship (HTRA):

Candidates selected under this category will be called as either LATERAL (those already possessing masters’ degrees), or DIRECT (those who have just completed their B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch.))

Externally Funded:

Fellowships for UGC/CSIR/DST/DAE/NBHM etc.

Having their own fellowships from funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, UGC, NBHM, etc., relevant to the research fields of the concerned departments.

External:

Part-Time External: (Industry / organization with R&D facility)

For the employees of Industry / organization with R&D facility or Government and quasi-government R&D Organizations / Public sector having R & D facilities / National Research laboratories /Reputed industries/organizations.

Part-Time External (On Campus):

Faculty members and professionals working in India with master degrees from Govt./Govt. Aided/Reputed Private Engineering Colleges/Science and Arts Colleges/ Universities/ Industry/Public Sector. Regular/Full-time teachers/ employees working in these institutions will be considered for admission under this category.

Internal:
The employees of the Institute i.e, NIT, Tiruchirappalli

Eligibility Criteria:

For the Dept of Computer Applications:

Applicants with masters’ degrees in Computer Applications or M.Sc. (Computer Science/OR&CA) with a qualified GATE score / UGC/ CSIR/ NBHM/ NET score. OR

M.E./ M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engg. or Data Analytics with a qualified GATE score.

For the Department of Computer Science & Engineering:

Bachelor’s and Master’s / M.S. (by Research) degree in Engineering / Technology in the relevant branch of study.

M.S (by Research):

Full-Time (Project):

The candidates who are selected under sponsored projects undertaken by the faculty of NIT-T are eligible to apply under this category, and a stipend may be paid from the sponsored projects.

Part-Time (Sponsored):

Candidates from organizations with R & D Labs of national repute (public sector /private sector/MNCs) and public sector undertakings such as DRDO, ISRO, IGCAR, BHEL, BEL, NLC, etc., which have MOU with NIT-T are only eligible to apply. Such candidates may have external research experts (at least two) from their parent organization in addition to the Internal Research Supervisor at NIT Tiruchirappalli.
