Indian Institute of Technology Goa (IIT Goa) is an autonomous public university located in Goa. It started functioning from July, 2016

M.Tech:

The institute offers M.Tech. programmes of 2 years duration, consisting of total four semesters.

M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering:

There are only 2 seats available under sponsored or self-finance category. The admission will be based on the GATE score.  All eligible aspirants required to register on Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). After successful registration in COAP, candidate has to register in M.Tech application portal of IIT Goa. Candidates who wish to confirm an offer (made from IIT Goa), must complete the payment of fees within the time window given in COAP.

M.Tech at IIT Goa has Foundation of theoritical computer science, Fundamentals of Computing systems design, machine learning as some of the courses in the first year along with elective courses. And it has Thesis work in the second year. 

The Institute admits M.Tech. candidates under the Regular and sponsored categories.

M.Tech program is for two-year duration and has a combination of compulsory and elective courses.

The total minimum credit requirement for the award of M.Tech.degree is 100 credits. The   total   credits   are   divided   between   course and thesis credits,   as   specified   by   the individual   Department/School.

Seminars and other academic work like practical training, field visits, etc. 

The credits are distributed over 4 semesters, with a minimum of 24 credits in each semester.

The thesis work may begin from the second semester. The student’s performance in a course is continuously evaluated throughout the semester and culminates in the award of a Grade on a 10- point scale.

Ph.D:

The institute conducts admission procedures twice a year i.e., after each semester in an academic year. The eligible aspirants go through a written exam test or interview in order to get selected for any PhD. programme. Offer letters are sent to provisionally selected candidates based on their performance in the written examination or interview and candidature is accepted after completion of document verification and payment of fees.

The total seat intake capacity is different in each semester, depending upon the recommendations of Senate.

Award of M.S. by Research to the Ph.D. Ph.D. students from the Engineering Stream

A student pursuing the Ph.D. Programme in an Engineering discipline and who has successfully completed minimum credit requirement of course work may be permitted to register for the M.S. Programme by Research leading to a dissertation. The total duration of M.S. Programme will be 2-3 years.

Financial Support during the period of Academic Probation in Ph.D. Programmes:

The Ph.D. students who are under Academic Probation may continue to be paid Teaching Assistantship at the rate applicable to them.

However, no Teaching Assistantship duties should be given to them on account of the need for them, to concentrate on their academic performance and to improve the same.

Therefore, these Ph.D. students would be expected to pay Non-Concessional Fee

Teaching Assistant (TA):

Research Assistant (RA):

Selection Process:

In case of admission through written test/interview, a minimum weightage of 70% is given to the GATE score in the final cumulative score for selection.

Applicants with any of the following qualifications shall be eligible for application to a full time PhD program at the Institute.

Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with an exceptional and a valid GATE score in the eligible discipline. UGC-CSIR NET Lectureship (LS) can be used as selection criteria if candidate qualifies interview cum selection process at the department level and Institute fellowship will be granted to such candidates.

Off Campus – External:

Candidates working as a regular employee in a government institution/ R&D organization/ relevant private industries are eligible to apply. Candidate should have well established research facilities on parent campus. Majority of research work shall be carried out in parent organization with a supervisor for the candidate.

Candidate must be sponsored by his/her employer and must have been in employment with the sponsoring organization for at least two years at the time of admission. The organization(s) should sign MoU with IIT Jammu.

Minimum qualification for these candidates is the same as for full-time regular candidates.

Off Campus – Part time:

Candidates working as a regular employee in a government institution/ R&D organization/ relevant private industries/ CRPF/ Indian Armed Forces are eligible to apply. 

The parent organization should be located in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh regions only.

The employer must expressly undertake to relieve him/her to stay on the campus to enable the candidate to complete the “Course work” and attend the evaluation presentations at the end of every semester.

A candidate applying for admission to the Part time PhD programme must spend at least 6 weeks per semester on IIT campus to work.

Part-time PhD candidates will utilize research infrastructure of IIT Jammu for their thesis research work and supervisor at parent organization is not mandatory.

BE/BTech or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline with minimum 60% marks or equivalent AND valid GATE Score in relevant paper.

In case the University/Institute does not award class, candidate should have scored CGPA/CPI. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the relaxation of 5% is admissible.

Valid GATE score is essential for candidates applying in TA category (except for candidates who have B.Tech or equivalent degree from IITs or BS degree from IISc with minimum CPI/CGPA of 8.0.

Institute Fellowship:

Applicant applying under this category has to be a full-time scholar at IIT Bhilai and needs to be present on the campus for the duration of PhD program as per the rules of IIT Bhilai. Student enrolled in this category receives Institute Fellowship. Any other category of Ph.D scholars do not receive Institute Fellowship.

Sponsored full-time:

An applicant who is either an awardee of a research fellowship from some recognized funding agency or is sponsored by his/her employer for the duration of PhD tenure may apply under this category. A certificate/declaration of sponsorship from the sponsoring body must be submitted by the applicant at the time of applying for admission.

Sponsored part -time:

Professionally employed personnel with minimum of 2 years of experience in the same organization such as working engineers, scientists, and teachers who can, while employed, attend regular classes as per the schedule of IIT Bhilai may apply for admission to PhD program under the sponsored part-time category. The applicant must be an employee of a recognized organization and be engaged in professional work in the relevant area. 

External full-time:

An applicant working in a reputed and recognized industry / academic establishment/research laboratory (Outside of IIT Bhilai) having R&D facilities for a period of minimum of 2 years may apply under this category. Such a student is expected to carry out all/major part of the research work in the organization employing the student.

External part -time:

The M.S (Research) program is a postgraduate research-oriented program. The scholar works in an area of interest under the supervision of a faculty member. The scholar has to obtain a minimum number of credits by taking courses. The highlight of the program is the independent research work taken by scholar, leading to a dissertation at the end of the program. 

M.S. (External) Research Program:

The scholar works in an area of his/her interest under the supervision of a faculty member. The highlight of the program is the independent research work taken by scholar, leading to a dissertation at the end of the program. The average duration of an M.S. program is between two to three years. The scholar taken into this program should have relevant work experience as mentioned in the admission criteria. The scholar has to submit a No Objection Certificate from their current organization.

External:

The applicant must be sponsored by and employed in an industry/organization/national laboratories, having R&D facilities and recognized by DST or by IIT Tirupati.
Research scholars admitted under this category will normally carry out part or all of their research in the parent organization under supervision of a faculty from IIT Tirupati and a co-supervisor employed in their parent organization. Certificate of Support from the Employer should be provided

Part-Time:

BE/BTech from any other university, with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 (7.5 for EWS/OBC-NCL and 7.0 for SC/ST/PwD) with valid GATE score can apply.
