Eligibility Criteria:
For GATE Candidates:
The candidate should have a Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or a Masters’ degree in Science
The minimum marks are 60% or CGPA of 6.0 in Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or a Masters’ degree in Science.
Candidates belonging to SC / ST and who have the basic qualifying degree is eligible to apply, provided s/he has secured marks not less than 55% or CGPA not less than 5.5 in the relevant degree.
Admission to this program is through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP).
For IIT Graduates:
For Bachelors’ degree holders from IIT system having a CGPA of 8.0 and above, the requirement of GATE / NET is waived off and would be given direct admission to M. Tech. programs.
For Sponsored Candidates:
A candidate working in an academic institution/PSU/Govt. R&D organizations/Govt. recognized private R&D organizations/industry, is considered as a sponsored candidate. Such a candidate must be full-time employee in the sponsoring organisation and should have at least 2 years of experience.
Candidates must have a valid GATE score.
Candidates seeking admission to M. Tech. programs of the Institute should have Minimum 60% or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 in the qualifying degree for UR/OBC candidates.
Minimum 55% or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 in the qualifying degree for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
For sponsored candidates having Bachelor’s degree from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) having a CGPA of 8.0 or above, the requirement of GATE/NET is waived off.

Selection Criteria
For GATE Candidates and IIT Graduates
The admission will be made on the basis of their GATE score for GATE candidates.
For IIT Graduates, it will be based on CGPA & Departmental Review.
For Sponsored Candidates:
The admission will be made based on Departmental Review and Recommendation after fulfilling the requisite criteria.
The M. Tech. admission will be through online counselling through COAP based on the GATE score and CGPA and Departmental Review
NOTE: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD/EWS candidates will be as per Government of India rules.
Ph.D
Categories of Admission:
Full-time Candidate:
Full-time are required to stay in the Institute during the entire period of their academic program.
A full-time candidate may have financial support in the form of
- Institute Assistantship (IA)
- Fellowship from Research Projects at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad (Project Fund)
Eligibility:
A candidate, who has qualified GATE/NET/Appropriate National Level Examination, is eligible for Ph.D. admission
Qualifying NET/GATE is not mandatory for application in Ph. D. in Engineering / Science, if the candidate
- Has done M. Tech/M.E. with First Class or First Division or with minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA or
- Has done B. Tech/ B.E. with a minimum CGPA of 8 or with equivalent percentage from any CFTI or
- Has done B. Tech/ B.E. with a minimum CGPA of 8 or with equivalent percentage from any Institute/University having 1 to 100th rank in the Overall category in NIRF India rankings.
Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) Candidates:
A candidate, selected under Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme, shall be directly admitted to the Ph.D. program without any interview.
