max file size

Question

when question asks about maximum file size sometimes only the size of the biggest pointer ( eg. triple indirect pointer) is considered and some solutions take the sum of single , double , triple and direct pointers as well

 

can someone clear the ambiguity

Exact value is found by taking the sum. And you should first calculate that. 

But generally contribution of other pointers(other than highest one) is very less. So, by looking at the options you can see if they are asking for approximate value. Which will be given by highest pointer(since it dominates the total sum)

BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT MAX FILE SIZE IS TOTAL OF ALL THE DIRECT AND INDIRECT POINTERS.

Yaah I have also seen this ambiguity in made easy solution but as per I know the right answer will be calculated using the sum.Lets see if anyone disagrees.
