what is the difference between commutative and symmetric

Symmetric property:

Let's say you have a binary relation of a and b,

So, if a ~ b implies b ~ a, then it is called symmetric.

For example: "=" is symmetric, while "<"  is not. 

Commutative property:

Example: Multiplying two numbers is commutative but their matrix multiplication is not.

I think these two vivid illustrations are enough for clearing the concepts.
