Unless it is mentioned "ID" has to wait for next cycle, always do it along with "WB". 1 votes 1 votes resuscitate commented Jan 12, 2016 reply Follow Share sir why did they give 3,4 id stages in without oprerand forwarding....i cant understand 0 votes 0 votes Arjun commented Jan 12, 2016 reply Follow Share After GATE you can analyze that. By then they will be releasing answer keys too :) 0 votes 0 votes Bhagirathi commented Jan 12, 2016 reply Follow Share @arjun sir if you say WB can be done in first half a cycle and ID can be done in second half of the cycle ..so you are saying you can do both these stages in half clock cycle then why do we spend a whole one clock cycle in normal cases.... 0 votes 0 votes Tendua commented Jan 12, 2016 reply Follow Share sir the half cycle procedure is in risc pipeline only ,. and i think if not given we should use the normal conventions. What if the state matches RISc processor. sir u solve this one . i am comfortable with 17 non operant forwarding . but not with operand forwarding . i think it should be 11 0 votes 0 votes Arjun commented Jan 12, 2016 reply Follow Share There are many questions answered in this topic and I have given many references also. https://gateoverflow.in/tag/pipeline 0 votes 0 votes Arjun commented Jan 13, 2016 reply Follow Share @Bhagirathi RD and Write can be done immediately as both are to/from register files. But suppose take EX stage- We cannot know when this will be done. It might involve many functional units and their upper bound is nothing but the period given by clock frequency. So, we cannot do clock split here. Same for MEM stage- we cannot do this immediately as we need data to arrive from/to memory. 0 votes 0 votes Please log in or register to add a comment.
