Hello everyone,

I got a call letter for attending interview for Research program in Mathematical Sciences at IISc Bangalore. Can someone please tell me if it is a good option for research? My interview is on 20th May. If someone else (preferably a girl) has got interview on same date then please message me. It would be good to go in a group. I am a girl too. And please tell me if its worth attending the interview for this branch. Thanks. :)

Severe flooding affected Kerala state in India due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. In almost a century, the worst floods in Kerala, more than 330 people have died, while at least 661,000 have been displaced and all 14 districts have been placed on high alert.

Here's how you can help those affected by the unprecedented floods in Kerala. You can make donations online to Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund through the site https://donation.cmdrf.kerala.gov.in/ or Prime Minister's National Relief Fund site https://www.pmnrf.gov.in/aboutpmnrf.php. Do try to send even something small.

CSA, IISC has released shortlist (Research programs) for this academic session.

Generally what percentage of shortlisted candidates get offer letters? And what is the criteria on basis of which Admission unit of IISC hands out offer letters?

Thanks.

I successfully completed 4 years in GO( feeling awesome). Actually I didn’t knew about GO when I was preparing for GATE’17 in 2016. One fine day after GATE’18, I’m just checking the questions (curious about how was the paper) and searching for answers which aren’t solved by me, the first link shown by google for the 2-3 questions is GO. After that I realized that, Gate overflow is especially for CSE gate aspirants. Maintaining something is more harder than Initiating it, that too as a free service - kudos to @Arjun sir for maintaining it over the years. Most beatiful things in Go are discussions. Those are really made my misconceptions clear. Aspirtants try to involve in healthy discussions as much as possible, clear your misconceptions and share your knowledge. I didn’t follow standard books, after starting reading books, my anaytical skills also improved as a result my rank jumped from AIR-330 to AIR-106. Some people saying GO is hard at users, but believe me, constructive arguements are allowed in GO, until unless you’re neither offending someone or nor disobeying the rules while asking your questions. I seen many people who need a solution for their questions instead of overcoming where they stucked, this is not the best way of learning. Some are posting images instead of typing questions, but duplicates can’t be easily found by images as the quetions – Please be type your questions. Aspirants need to understand the fact that, everyone starts from ZERO. You just need to show consistency in learning daily, certainly you will reach the destination after some time. You just try to complete the syllubus, revision, takes periodical tests and then GATE. I sugget aspirants to attempt GO Tests by mentors which are free, quality of these tests are high than paid tests which are avaiablle in market.

At the begining, I was tried to answer the questions which I know, even though good answer exist for those questions. Slowly I turned to answer those questions which don’t have good answers, after that answered which questions are worth to answer and now just commenting the approach to solve a question – How I evolved over the years in GO.

Now-a-days GO is a hobby for me, hope I will cotinue to contribute something to GO. I take this as an opporutinity to thank you @Arjun sir for guiding me, helping me whenever I need, @Bikram for tests, @Habib, @DD, @Sachin, @praggy for your beautiful answers, @Deepak, @soumya29, @minipanda, @srestha, @Ayush for healthy discussions.

While searching for questions on GO website, I found that the website is lacking a couple of important and useful functionalities.

  • Search capability based on multiple tags. Currently, the website supports search based on a single tag only.
  • Keyword and timestamp-based filtering and sorting of search results.

I don’t know how is the website currently managed. But, if the moderators need some help in the implementation of these functionalities, I can volunteer, after the GATE 2019 examination, of course.

There's a post on the homepage of GateOverflow website about this temporary job offer at IIT Kharagpur. I tried to apply for it but it is asking for reference of someone (reference person's name, email, designation etc.). Can someone please suggest whom should I put as a reference. I don't have any clue. Please guide me.

Hi All,

Could you please share the interview Experience for IISC Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences? If anyone has joined IISC Bangalore in Interdisciplinary research project, how is the experience?

It will be really helpful.

So, has direct admission for Masters in CSE been stopped at IISc? The website says so, but in college predictor it says IISc direct admission.

Is there a difference between ME and M Tech in IISc? If yes, then in what ways?

While reading long discussions on many GO questions, many times I’ve to scroll way up to see exact question, or few minor details! I found scrolling up, while leaving discussion, a bit disturbing as it looses the flow of reading. So, I tried to implement YouTube like PIP mode for questions, where question is fixed at one corner.

I found it useful and convenient than before, so thought it’s better to share!

Steps:

  1. Open console in browser (Right click anywhere and then select ‘Inspect’, a window will open, select ‘Console’ tab there )
  2. Copy and paste following code:

$('.qa-q-view-content').css({'position': 'fixed', 'z-index': '9999', 'top': '2px', 'width': '30%', 'height': '50%', 'right': '2px', 'border': '2px solid black', 'border-radius': '5px'});

Here’s how it looks:

I don't know whether I am the only one facing this issue.. The new notification thingy is not working from my mobile phone. When I press the N button no list appears but the color turns from yellow to grey as if they have been shown.  ☹

I often visit this site from mobile and I am sure many do..I hope this message gets delivered to the concerned people who can actually do something about it.

Thank you ☺

All the Best to All Candidates of ISRO SC Written Test April 2018 .

Important Tips :
1) Reach at Examination centre before 1 Hour
2) Do carry a water bottle with you (Avoid drinking water in examination hall)
3) If you are not filling answer in Answer Sheet parallely then please fill it after solving every 10-15 Question
4) 80%+ Question would be Conceptual or formula based . There may be some question which require lot of time . Mark themad attempt after solving all easy questions.
5) There is very less chance that you will get time to revise , so accuracy is most important.
6) To be on safe side , try to attempt more than 55 Question (if paper seems easy) .... But no one can predict actual cutoff before exam day.
7) Focus on Speed as you have to solve 80 Question in Just 90 Minute.
8) Read Questions Carefully
9) Read all Options before answering a Question (even if you are seeing correct option - As there may be some options like both of these or all of these)
10) All those who attempted GATE 2018 , You know your mistakes better than anyone else . Please Try your best to "not repeat it" .
"Learn from Your Mistakes"

------ All the Best -----

#Update (23 April 2018)

ISRO SC Written Test has been over and Overall it was of moderate level and Better as well as tougher than Dec 2018 . (cutoff may be around 120 or less)
Those who are getting good marks in ISRO/IIITH or secured good rank in GATE 2018, you can stop reading here and Congrats,All the Best for Better Future.

For All those who didn't perform well this year :

Here I want to give you example of two People like me and you -  Habib & Kishalya Das .
Kishalya Das : Read this :  https://sharingmyexperiencesite.wordpress.com/2017/04/12/my-journey/
In this you will know about importance of Hard Work , Perseverence and self belief.

Habib : I think most of you know about him . But let me tell you that from the first day when i interacted with him , i always think that he will Get in Top 10 but luck was not his side till 2017 (Still in 2018 for GATE) ... He Work hard for 3 Year (drop for 2 Year) with one Believe that - "He deserve Better" and "he can do it" . He always preferred knowledge over Rank because no exam in world can test a person skills in 3 hour. Finally (in March 2018) he got his dream job as "ISRO SC Scientist"

Overall , I want to say that - If you were unable to perform well this year and you believe that 'you deserve better' then don't loose hope . Hard work always Pays off. Sometimes you just need to wait and keep Trying .

I am going to take admission in IITR with CSE branch, but I have some issues:
1. I have done B.Tech from a very low-level college, where faculties don't know anything about CS.
2. I studied just to pass the semester exams, not full syllabus but every time got the 2nd or 3rd position in batch.
3. last 4-6 months I prepared for the gate and got rank about 850.
4. My communication skill is very bad.
5. I don't know English very well even I can't explain my thought fluently in English.
6. I haven't done any project in B.tech (excluding copy paste), no training, no internship.
7. Luckily I got a job offer from Wipro.
8. I like to do coding but I am able to solve hardly 2 questions of codechef long challenge.
8. Becuase of my category (OBC-NCL) i will get IITR.

I fell that If I will be the dumbest person of IIT.
I want to know that will I survive in IIT and get a decent job with such situations?
If yes, what should I do from now?
